Model History

The Nash Motors Company was based in Kenosha. Wisconsin. in the United States from 1916 to 1937. From 1937 to 1954. Nash Motors was the car division of the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. Nash continued production until 1957 after the creation of American Motors Corporation in 1954. In 1949 the aerodynamic Nash 'Airflyte' was the first car introduced by Nash Motors after World War II; the advanced design and aerodynamic body shape of which had been developed in a wind tunnel. Nash chief designer Nils Wahlberg's theories on reducing an automobile body's drag coefficient resulted in a smooth shape and enclosed front wings. The 'cutting-edge aerodynamics' were the most futuristic of all new post-war design in the industry. A one-piece curved safety glass windshield was used. Wide and low. the car featured more interior room than its 1948 predecessor although its height was 6 inches less. The 600 models used a 112-inch wheelbase while the Ambassador models were stretched to 121 inches and coil spring suspension was used on all four wheels. Three interior trim levels were offered in both models; Super. Super Special. and the top line Custom. Power was provided by an 82hp. 176 cubic inch. inline six cylinder engine in the 600 model and an 112HP. OHV. 234 cubic inch. six cylinder engine in the Ambassador. The few changes for the 1950 'Airflytes' were a wider rear window. concealed fuel filler cap. some dashboard features and an addition on the Ambassador model of a GM Hydramatic automatic gearbox option. The 600 models were renamed the 'Statesman'. A new first for an American car were seat belts. together with a new five-position Airliner reclining front passenger seat. both optional in both models. The stroke on the Statesman engine was increased 1/4 inch giving 186 cubic inches and 85hp. the Ambassador received a new cylinder head that increased the horsepower to 115. Changes for the 1951 model were to the rear wings. elongated to incorporate vertical taillights. a new conventional dashboard replacing the Uniscope instrument mounted on the steering column. a new vertical radiator bar grille with horizontal side lights and addition of GM Hydramatic gearbox as a Statesman model option also. The three best sales years for Nash up to that time were 1949. 1950 and 1951.

Summary

Only two survivors known in the uk . way ahead of its time. what a car to collect.

A complete one off here in the UK and a must to any Classic Car collection.

This rare example is beautiful throughout maintaining all of its original period trim both inside and out.

She drives exceptionally well and wants for nothing.

Being a Dry State Car from Texas she is solid throughout and will remain so for many years to come.

This is a great investment if I have ever seen one and its unlikely you will ever see another.
