Current customer rating: (583 votes ) based on1952 Bentley Mk6 Coachwork by H. J. Mulliner
Chassis Nr B137MB
One of only 6 Mulliner-bodied MkVI saloons with the graceful semi-razor edge styling that was just coming into fashion at the time. Considerably lighter and stiffer than the Standard Steel Saloon. it benefited from the aircraft construction techniques that Mulliner had perfected during the war years. with much of the framework in cast aluminium and most of the outer panels in aluminium sheet.
Mulliner only built six of these 4-1/2cc bodys on a Mk6. chassis they then brought in the R type chassis were about 200 were made. so the Mk6 is a rarer car.
This particular car has been maintained to the highest possible standards both mechanically and cosmetically with recent Bills for over £55. 00 from RR/Bentley Specialists (although the previous owner reckons the total is nearer £60. 00) Bodywork was stripped to bare aluminium and refinished in Midnight Blue over Ocean Blue. Complete new interior. comprising new wool headlining. new grey hide upholstery and door cards. new blue Wilton carpet. All wood professionally re-polished. Boot fully re-trimmed. All bright work is to high standard.
This large and imposing car cannot fail to impress. It drives fabulously with textbook oil pressure and operating temperature and is most suitable for long journeys thanks to the aforementioned maintenance and servicing history.
Known History of B137MB
The Mk6 chassis was delivered to Mulliners for Sports Saloon coachwork. on the 15th November. 1951 and the finished car was delivered to Jack Barclay on 20th May. 1952. The Area Retailer was D. H & A. H Blower of Grimsby who supplied it to its first private owner a Col. J. E. Sanders from Gainsborough. The first Registration plate was BE1. The only noted change to standard specification noted on the Build Sheets is that the Steering Column was 2” longer than standard. By 1956 the car was back in London with The Barnet Trading Co listed as owners. At some point thereafter the Mulliner found its way to America but in 1995 was repatriated by the Real Car Co of Gwynedd. By 1995 it was registered with the RREC as belonging to P. M. Smith Esq of Exeter and by 2004 it was in the ownership of a Struan Erskine.
The last owner acquired the car in late 2005 by which time the car was bearing the GB registration JTB3 but in 2011 it was changed to 347YUE.
