1961 Jaguar 3. 8 MkII Saloon

This Mark II 3. 8 liter Sedan is the successor to the 2. 4 Sedan which began production in 1955. It was produced as a "sports-sedan" to fit the market between the large Mk IX sedan and the successful XKE. The MkII proved a very popular automobile. as its engine was a 3. 8 dual carbureted version of the powerful XKE. It became a popular police vehicle and was seriously raced in many European events. Despite its muscularity and superior handling charastics. it was a beautifully designed and elegantly finished luxury car. It is a very sough-after collectable automobile today. and some bring six figure price today. It might be noted that the design of the MKII was tastefully updated in the modern Jaguar S type which bears a striking resemblance to this 48 year old Mk II presented here.  XJ Unlimited 5 Speed conversion and Reclining seats.

This MKII is collector owned and has been the beneficiary of a complete and thorough restoration. It is equipped with a recently installed 5 speed transmission. replacing the 4 speed it had originally. for comfortable US freeway travel. Additionally it has power steering. air conditioning. and power assisted 4 wheel disk brakes. This was the first year for Jaguar to provide disk brakes and they were on all XKEs and optional on the MKII. Notice the medallion on the rear bumper to warn motorists behind of the disk-brakes on this car. A new feature for 1961.  

Owners Comments: This MKII was the recipient of the 2007 Tuchsher Award presented by the San Diego Jaguar Club for the highest score in the Champion Class Concours d'Elegance. with a score of 99. 67 of a possible 100 points. This is such a beautiful car to both appreciate and drive. I drive this car regularly as I do the other cars in my collection. but this MKII is certainly a favorite. I truly admire its beatiful lines. the craftsmanship in the wood interior trim and comfortable leather seating. Even the rear trays speak of the elegance missing in today's Automobiles. While wonderful to admire as a work of art. what makes this car special to me is the quick response of the powerful engine. sure handling. superb braking. and quiet comfortable ride.
