RARELY DOES A LOTUS ELAN S4 COME TO MARKET. EVEN RARER IS THAT THIS ELAN HAS ONLY 34. 17 MILES AND WAS RECENTLY RESTORED MECHANICALLY AND COSMETICALLY!! FINISHED IN ONE OF THE BEST COLOR COMBINATIONS AVAILABLE AND READY FOR ITS NEXT OWNER TO LOVE. INVESTMENT QUALITY BRITISH SPORTS CAR!! SPECIFICATIONS Year 1970 Make Lotus Model Elan S4 Roadster VIN 4570013K Mileage 34. 17 Engine 1. 6 Liter Cylinders Inline 4 Transmission 4-Speed Title Clear Color Carnival Red Interior Color Black DESCRIPTION The Lotus Elan was the first Lotus road car to use the now-famous steel backbone chassis with a fiberglass body. A combination that Corvette wouldn't pick up on till almost 20 years later! The Elan was technologically advanced with an inline 4cly twin-cam 1558 cc engine. 4-speed manual with synchromesh gears. 4-wheel disc brakes. and 4-wheel independent suspension. The Lotus-Ford Twin Cam engine was based on Ford's Pre-Cross-flow 4-cylinder 1500 cc engine. with a Lotus-inspired Cosworth alloy twin-cam head. At just 1500lbs and with 126hp on tap. the Elan went on to become Lotus' first commercial success. reviving a company stretched thin by the more exotic and less commercially successful Elite. and enabling funding of the Lotus success in racing over the next ten years! Available in coupe or convertible forms. it is estimated that a mere 17. 00 where produced from 1963 till 1975 and far fewer remain in the world today.

The 1970 Lotus Elan Type 45 Drop Head Coupe you see here was lovingly restored by a former Lotus parts manager. The story of this car is one of legend. The original owner purchased the car and after a few years of summer fun he parked the car in the basement of his home for the winter. Kids and work kept the car in its dry climate controlled bunker that summer and the next. Before he knew it. the car had been parked for 20 years! After his death the widow sold the car to a family friend that collected vintage BMW's. He started to research parts and restoration shops and quickly found out that his partner in one of his BMW race cars had in fact worked his way thru engineering school at the local Lotus dealer in the 70's. After some years of hinting at buying it and finally begging to own it. the former Lotus employee had his very own Elan. and one he sold the original owner the parts to maintain it when new!

Upon removing the car form its long term storage the new owner took his experience with NOS Lotus parts and searched out as many as he could find. Any other parts he needed came from Lotus specialist he had come to know and befriend. The engine was removed and completely rebuilt! The carburetors rebuild. the clutch replaced. the suspension bushings replaced. the springs replaced. the brakes rebuilt. the fuel system rebuilt. the cooling system rebuilt. the gauges recalibrated and restored. wiring was checked and redone as needed. After the mechanical restoration the car was driven a few thousand miles to work out any bugs and then the body was sanded down and repainted its original Carnival Red. The top was replaced along with a new boot cover. New foam was installed in the seats. but the original seat covers where retained. new carpet went in and a heavy detailing of the remaining parts done. The car was in such good cosmetic condition due to the low mileage and long term storage that little was needed to be replaced.

The car runs and drives great! If you have ever been fortunate enough to drive one. you know that they are one of the best handling cars ever built! This car comes well equipped with power windows. jack. tool. spare tire. owners manual. workshop manual. restoration receipts. Kenwood CD player. walnut dash. and more. Please contact us with any questions you may have! As always we are happy to help arrange shipping of your new Lotus to your garage.
