You are looking at a Sunbeam Rapier. This car is a good reliable runner in decent condition considering it's age and that it's an un-restored car. This is a really cool-looking unusual car and is a true pillarless coupe. the pillars wind down with the rear windows.
This car runs on unleaded petrol!
It's bodywork is not perfect. it has bubbles. dents. bad paint. etc. However. considering it's been around for all these years I think it's survived very well. There doesn't seem to be any serious rust. underneath is very clean and looks like it's been regularly treated and there are no holes or anything. I actually have some paint for it. a slightly darker more coppery/orangy metallic shade. which I think would suite it really nicely. there is enough paint for the whole car. the buyer can have the paint with it if they want.
Mechanically its in good condition. it has been maintained very well and everything on it works as it should. The overdrive works correctly and even all the cool little things that these cars had. like the lamp inside the glove box and boot. all work.
This car has the correct alloy-headed engine and the correct 4-speed + overdrive transmission. it has not been messed around with at all. it even has the correct air filter box.
Recently the car has had a full major service plus some various repairs/maintenance including:-Engine oil and filter. air filters. -Transmission and rear axle oil and steering box oil. -Spark plugs. HT cables. distributor cap/rotor/points/condenser. -Fuel filter. new carb diaphragms (modern-fuel-friendly). carb damper fluid. -All door hinges-Bulbs and fuses and also both door switches replaced. -Valve clearances set and manifold and rocker cover gasket replaced. -Coolant flushed and refilled.
It seems that the previous owner also replaced brake hoses and various other brake parts. the clutch hydraulics and various other things reasonably recently too.
So all in all it's a very nice car mechanically. It starts. stops and drives really nicely. and as you can see all of it's maintenance has just been done. so you can just jump in and enjoy driving it until the next service!
Electrically there has been a couple of minor upgrades. It has an overdrive indicator lamp (for people who are not used to overdrive. like me). an extra fuse box and some extra wiring which would let you fit a modern stereo and an electric fuel pump if desired. It has a hidden discrete stereo system and an under-seat sub at the moment but that will probably not come with it.
The interior is not perfect but nice and original with only normal expected wear and tear. It has it's original non-reel 3 point seat belts which work OK too.
It has an absolute ton of paperwork including full ownership history. original handbook. workshop manual. old MOTs. receipts. a diary-style record of it's existence kept by a previous owner. a mountain of club paperwork. parts lists. diagrams and all types of other stuff.
So. in conclusion. this is a really cool looking reliable and drivable classic car which you can drive every day. in all weathers. and still look cool. It's paintwork is not great. but it IS un-restored. so at least you know that there are no horrors hidden behind a nice shiny paintjob. unlike some cars. It' a nice honest car really. it has it's imperfections but they are all easy to fix if desired. I just drive it as it is.
This car was (and still is) my daily driver. I have not had that long. I originally got it to drive around in while my other car was getting restored. however since then my other car is finished and also I found a RO80 which is in very bad condition. but I really want a RO80. so I guess I should get rid of something first. and unfortunately it looks like it will be this car. I am always open to trying new cars though. so if you have something cool/classic you want to swap. drop me a message. you never know. maybe whatever you have is cooler than a RO80!
For more info please message me. if you want to talk to me message me your phone number and I will call you back.
Thanks for looking!
