1973 VOLKSWAGEN PICK-UP T2 Single Cab - ideal for surfers

Things about this rare beast:

Originally manufactured in Germany as a UK spec RHD! – was exported to Australia where it lived up until 2005 where it came back to the UK.

It was registered here in the UK by first UK owner with full intention to restore it.   This didn't work out and I became second owner.

Within two months of having it. the T2 was sent to specialist locally where it was stripped down. rust (not much) cut out. floor bed removed and then repaired. re sprayed etc.

The T2 was off the road for 18 months and finally came out of hiding in 2011 and was taken camping to Cornwall for two weeks.   What a great time we had.   Since then it has done 1000 miles to present date 28/07/2013.

Replacement Iroko wooden bed slats have been replicated to protect the rear load bed from damage.   Also  replacement hoop and bows were manufactured here in the UK by vw expert to complement its finish.   The drop sides are still original and were rather beaten up on the inside.   I debated replacing them. but as the outsides were so good we decided to ply line the insides and keep to use as a working truck.   This could be done better now looking back and for a few quid you could sort this out.   My thoughts were to just keep it original.   If need be the ply could just be taken off and the insides painted up as they are.   Or – of course replace complete drop sides……. Will leave that thought up to you.

Inside.   As a single cab – you really don't have too much space.   Having said that – we have managed with two adults. full size baby seat and dog to fit in and drive down to Cornwall quite happily.

The original seats were shot along with door cards.   These were professionally reupholstered again here in the UK and look absolutely amazing.

It has a JVC CD radio with built in Bluetooth along with a separate amp in the back and quality sound system.   T2's are noisy and it's great to have some good music when you're on a cruise.

Underside load bed still has original flooring which was painted in a scutz black to prevent too much rot setting in.   Underside beams are still in original paint so you can see the original good state of them.   No repairs hidden up.

As a classic motor vehicle – this has an ‘Agreed Insurance Valuation' of £16. 00. 00 and has done for the past 3 years now with Adrian flux.

I even have its Original Birth Certificate from Germany which shows its date of manufacture. specification. engine details and chassis etc.   (rare to find).   It still has its original 1. 6 air cooled engine in side.

About the Drive.   It drives really well for a truck so old.   Suspension is good. drive shaft doesn't knock. doesn't clang around corners and generally sits well on the road.   All Tyres are in great condition due to low usage.

Once again for a truck so old. it does have a few small marks here and there.   I have been as fair as I can regarding bodywork (detailing drop sides)  I have 100's of restoration photos to show the amount of works carried out which can be put on a memory stick for the new owner.   Far too many to email!

Still on its original steel wheels.   You could swap these for alloys – but I prefer the commercial look. – So does everyone who stops to take photos of it.   Where ever we go its always an eye catcher!
