Vw camper van early bay Devon conversions tax free 1971

Welcome to my auction of a VW camper Early bay 1971 Devon Conversions
Relisted i must point out why. A. this is not the original colour it was red and resprayed by a past owner a Porsche colour Sunshine yellow. B. there is rust on this vehicle especially underneath ( yes surely a no-brainer for a 40 year old vehicle ) these vans have issues and always will even super expensive ones. therefore i clearly state this is. and always wiil be. an ongoing project.

Where do i start ? Well i have always wanted one of these and spent a great deal of time looking and saving until i thought i found a good deal on a good honest Camper. These Early bays are a lovely design having all the rounded features of yesteryear yet some of the improvements that came later on. Notably the front disc brakes which help you stop so much better than before.  Have spent lots on her 7k alone for van over 1k in parts and most recently £1500 to get her through he latest mot. Admittedly. this sounds a tad heavy but what it means in the long run is there are no nasties hidden from the new owner mostly just tidying her up and fixing minor niggles dealing with any rust etc . also stamping your own individuality on this camper. This sadly left me with little in the way of ready cash as I was really hoping to use her this summer and now unfortunately just don't have the cash to finish the van the way i would like too and go to all the shows which cost too. That and a new job looming forces a sale. :/ She is called Sunflower by the way.

Usually i would be out working on her but seeing it is raining i thought i would try to cover anything i may have missed off. Yesterday i fitted the new battery along with some new chrome rocker covers and rocker cover gaskets. I was going to work on a little corrosion on the rear hatch today if it dries up at all.
I have had a few mails regarding my comments about the underneath. most is protected by a belly pan and sealant along with any rot being cut out and dealt with appropriately i will add pictures again when weather subsides but bear in mind these are no substitute for coming to see it with your own two eyes.
I have two boxes of bits that i will list here in a little more detail. - Chrome surrounds for back-lights [ older type too small for current covers ]- more rear covers for back-lights 2x new & some older also a seal or two [ though new seals are currently fitted on vehicle ]- oil cooler [ new ]- 2x new generator and fan/pulley belts [ new ]- various gromits and clips for interior fixing- aftermarket filter to fit atop carb' [ currently has original oil filter fitted ]- felt runners for both door windows. - rubber blade type seal again for door window. - spare accelerator cable [ new one just fitted. but always goo to have a spare ! ]- haynes manual no. 082- new locks various types [ most are new on vehicle ]- various gaskets to cover engine and ancillaries [ should be enough to rebuild engine twice over. . maybe ? ]- How to keep your Volkswagen alive by. john Muir- the previously stated door and interior cards. they are a little shabby now but make awesome templates to re-cut or re-cover with fresh fabric. - made to measure interior curtains . white with multi-colour lollipops i believe [ minimalistic ]- various other tid-bits bolts and spare bits for sliding door. all-sorts really.

Okay i find it odd so far in under 24 hours that the bids have got so far but yet no one has viewed/expressed an interest to view here. so i must clarify you are bidding to buy. I do not mind if you want to bid without viewing as long as you are sure you want this vehicle. Though i do question the likelihood of anyone completing much like the last chap who didn't even see the van first.

Further to a question about interior i believe this model is a Devon Caravette [ i could be mistaken. ] There is a seat that pulls down into the main bed and also two hammock style beds in the pop top. there is another small seat behind the drivers seat which also acts as storage. The only thing missing is the cooker unit which is supposed to be hinged behind the passenger seat. saw one of these go on e-bay recently with hinges for about £50.
