1967 Jaguar XKE FHC Coupe Series I

'67 Series I Jaguar E Type Fixed-Head Coupe. Last of the Series I's. and often more desired than earlier Series I's by people who want a car restored to original spec that can also be driven a lot given the full-synchro Jaguar gearbox. slightly larger 4. 2-litre engine. and slightly more comfortable seats.

History

I am selling this car for a friend who purchased it about a year ago with the intention of doing a high level stock restoration.   With three other British car restorations on the go and taking longer than he expected. he no longer has the storage or time to finish the XKE.

The car is currently as shown in the photos (all of which were taken within the past week). with the bonnet removed. the engine and gearbox out. and the cylinder head and intake/carbs separated from the shortblock.

The car has no documented history. but on purchasing it the current owner was told that it was originally sold at a British car dealership here in Winnipeg. Manitoba. and was apparently parked in the mid-‘80s. stored and partially dismantled with the intention of doing a full restoration.

eBay only allows 24 photos in their listings. but a set of almost 200 photos of the car all taken within the past week can be found on my Photobucket account at the following link: http://s1346. photobucket. com/user/tiga78/library/Jaguar%20XKE%20FHC%20Series%20I?sort=3&page=1

Since being disassembled to the point shown in the photos. the car has moved a few times and passed through at least two owners.   To that end. a few pieces have likely gone missing over the years. but it appears mostly complete.   All parts included are shown in the photos; if it's not in the photos. please assume it is missing and not included.

Serial Numbers

From the research that the current owner and I have done. the car appears to have matching numbers on all pieces identified on the data plate. with everything falling in the proper range for a Series I.   See the included photos of all numbers listed below.

Chassis Number (present on data plate. and stamped into square front frame next to RH wheel): 1E33053

Body Number (present on data plate): 4E24454

Engine Number (present on data plate. front of cylinder head. and right-hand side of block): 7E9259-9

Gearbox Number (present on data plate. and stamped on flange of transmission case): EJ8942

HD8 SU Carburetor Numbers: AUD 227F. AUD 227C. and AUD 227R

Smiths Gauge Model Numbers (on faces of each gauge – the suffixes on the fuel/oil/water gauges were tough to read with the gauges mounted and are my best guess):

Speedometer: SN 6322/29 1312

Tachometer: RV 7414/06 X-100 2-1

Fuel Gauge: BF 2200/09

Oil Pressure Gauge: PE 2300/07

Water Temp Gauge:  BT 2200/03

Body

The body appears to be quite solid.   Previous owners look to have began with some sanding and minor bodywork in preparation for a respray that was never completed.   It looks like the sanded-down paint is likely original (original color appears to be the British Racing Green on the rear hatch).   Current owner and I have not noticed any rust through on the body. in the floors. or in the front subframe tubes.   It appears as though the rear wheelwells and lower door skins have had bodywork. and there is some primer on the rear chassis (see photos of underside in Photobucket gallery – I am not sure how much of the rear chassis/rear floor panels have been replaced).   The worst piece body-wise is the original bonnet. which is included in pieces but quite rough.   It would probably be restorable with a fair bit of effort. and its Triplex glass headlamp covers and trim pieces are in good condition. Also included is a second bonnet from a later series XKE in good condition (see photos); current owner was planning to purchase a conversion kit to convert the better late-model bonnet to covered headlamps. but that decision will now be up to the buyer and how original they want the car to be.

All glass is intact.

Mechanicals

Current owner believes that the engine was rebuilt in the early-‘90s. and was told that in the process received a brand new factory crankshaft. new bearings. new pistons. timing chain. etc. . and that the cylinder head was also rebuilt.   While there are no invoices to substantiate this. the condition of the head and pieces in the engine visible with the head off seems to support the claim.   Having said that. the engine and head spent some time in poor storage before the current seller bought it. and there is some corrosion on exposed surfaces (see photos).   It is likely that a teardown and some resurfacing can resolve this. Rotating assembly does turn by hand.

Transmission does not appear to have been taken apart. and its condition is unknown.   Brakes. clutch and steering/suspension have not been inspected. so a full restoration should be expected (and it is missing a couple of shock absorbers).   Previous owner told current seller that the differential was taken apart. refreshed and reassembled (but again. in the early-‘90s).

Interior

Interior is relatively complete and appears original save for the seat covers and console lid. which have been reupholstered (but the original leather seat covers are included – see photos).   The seats. door cards. dash top. rear hatch upholstery and headliner are not torn. and might be serviceable for a driver with some careful refurbishing. It would all need recovering/replacement for a restoration. Smiths gauges and original switchgear are all intact. Radio and its console are loose. but included (see photos).

Wheels / Tires

Current owner was told that the wire wheels were reconditioned and new Dunlop tires mounted in the early-‘90s.   The tires still have their stickers on them.

Logistics

Inspection: The car is located in a storage building slightly outside Winnipeg. Manitoba. a short distance away from the current seller's home. but he is available to open the building for inspections on Wednesday. November 23. and Saturday. November 26.   He may be able to arrange inspections on other days as well. Winnipeg is located about 60 miles north of the US border at Pembina. North Dakota. or if flying in. its international airport is an approximately 40-minute drive from the car's location.

Payment: A non-refundable deposit of $2. 00. 00 USD must be made via Paypal within 24 hours of the auction's close.   Full payment via wire transfer or cash on pickup is required within 7 days of the auction's close.

Shipping: Car will be sold with a bill of sale and a clean Manitoba Transfer of Ownership Document (our version of a title) in the current seller's name.   Car needs to be picked up within 30 days of the auction's close. and all shipping arrangements are the buyer's responsibility.

Current seller is willing to assist buyer with loading the car and parts at no charge if buyer picks the car up.

If the car is to be shipped (which. again. the buyer will need to arrange). we can assist with the packaging and crating of the loose pieces (engine. trans. 2 bonnets. etc. ) at a shop rate of $50 USD/hour.

Current seller does own a truck and enclosed race car trailer which the car and parts should fit inside.   He is prepared to discuss loading up and delivering it to a mutually agreeable location in Canada for export purposes (the nearest US border crossing to buyer. or best port for international export) for a fee that would cover all of his expenses and some amount for his time.   However. he is not prepared to take the car across the Canadian border into the USA.

Thanks for looking and good luck.   The car is not advertised anywhere else. so as long as it meets its reserve (which is less than $30. 00). it will sell on eBay.
