Advanced features included the first use of adjustable fascia ventilation in a production car and the option of a unique hard top that consisted of a fixed glass rear window (called a backlight) with an integral rollbar and a detachable. steel centre panel (aluminium for the first 500 units). This was the first such roof system on a production car and preceded by 5 years the Porsche 911/912 Targa. which has since become a generic name for this style of top. On the TR4 the rigid roof panel was replaceable with an easily folded and stowed vinyl insert and supporting frame called a Surrey Top. The entire hard top assembly is often mistakenly referred to as a Surrey Top. In original factory parts catalogues the rigid top and backlight assembly is listed as the Hard Top kit. The vinyl insert and frame are offered separately as a Surrey Top.   This 1963 Triumph TR4 Surrey Top was originally titled as a 1964 and remains that way.  Cars were dated in the year they were sold back then.  Based on the VIN. it is a 1963.  This can be fixed at your local DMV.  The odometer reads 29751. but I do not know if it is accurate.  Based on the overall condition of the car. it is possibly correct.  The car is in excellent condition.  It was restored a few years back by a previous owner.  The weatherstripping around the doors and windows is new. as is the carpeting.  The door panels and rear compartment and rear seat are in excellent condition.  The seats are pretty good. but could stand to be reupholstered.  The dash was done wrong.  The dash used looks to be that of a TR4A.  I am including a brand new wood dash for you to install. along with a new glove box lock and key.  The ignition and some of the knobs have been put back in the wrong place. they just need to be put in the right place.  The directional arm is incorrect. but I will include a brand new proper one.  I do not think the horn works. maybe just a loose wire.  The choke does not lock open. so it needs to be held manually for starting.  Fear not! I am including a brand new choke assembly.  The lower right hand dash pad is also incorrect for this car. so I am including a new one.  The center dash support bracket was missing. so I bought an original one and painted it and it is ready to install along with a brand new radio blanking bracket.  There is a set of brand new Triumph rubber all weather floor mats in the car.  The tires are practically brand new and the 48 spoke wire wheels look great requiring just a little clean up.  The front parking and directional lamps are incorrect.  They should be clear. so I am including new glass clear lenses for all.  The chrome on the bumpers and trim is fantastic!  The gas cap. door handles. and boot hinges are a bit dull and could use replacing.  I am including a new gas cap and hinges. but I do not have new handles (probably the only thing I don't have!) I also have a set of new chrome headlight trim rings.  The hard top. windshield frame. backlight frame. and left rear quarter panel all seem to be fibreglass.  I guess they were replaced at some point.  You could return them to metal pieces. but that would cost thousands of dollars.  They look great. so why bother.    The paint looks very good.  It isn't show quality. but looks fantastic for the most part.  There are a few spots where the paint has "lifted" a bit. nothing larger than a dime. There are a few minor ships and a few light surface scratches. but nothing major.  There is a very small ding on the right front fender. and a small ding on the left side rocker just below the door. not visible unless you lay on the ground.  The trunk is rock solid. not a drop of rust anywhere.  I have the original spare and jack kit.  I do not have a tool roll.  I will include a new fuel tank board cover and spare wheel cover. as the ones that are in the car look homemade.  The engine is extremely clean.  The twin S. U. Carburetors look and work great and the cars starts and runs very well.  The only thing that needs adjusting is the idle.  It idles low. so the accelerator probably just needs to be tightened down a bit.  The car starts right up and is absolutely a blast to drive.  The brakes are excellent and the oil pressure is right around 70.  It does drip a bit of oil when parked like any great British automobile.  The handling and suspension are perfect.  I am including a new washer fluid bottle. as the one in the car is not correct.  The windshield is perfect. and the backlight is excellent. with just a few scratches.  The side windows do show some wear. so I am including 2 brand new ones.  The hard top has a few "ripples" in it. but should be able to be smoothed out a bit.  The car did not come with the soft. or "Surrey" top when I bought it.  I am including a complete kit to install the top.  It is white vinyl and will look awesome on this car.  I have a few other new parts that come along with the car including a wood knock off wheel wrench. a crested Triumph key blank. a drivers manual. hood buffers and some others.  I bought this car due to its great condition and rarity.  I have not seen one like this for sale on ebay ever.  I bought everything I need to complete the car properly.  Unfortunately. due to my wife having to stop working because of a degenerative eye disease. I really can't afford to keep the car.  I wish I could just store it for a while and get back to it later. but it is never good to let these cars sit.  It needs to run and hopefully someone out there can finish the little bit of work left to make this car as amazing as it should be.  It is registered in New York and has a transferable registration.  There are no titles on cars this age in New York.  The car is sold as is with no warranty.  It is 50 years old and things can go wrong at any time.  I have described the car as honestly and accurately as I can.  It is a great car and very solid.  Please take it home. finish it up. and enjoy it!  I will assist however I can with shipping. but it is the buyers responsibility. Just to add a few things. the dash pad is free from any cracks or blemishes. All the gauges work properly. The transmission works great. shifting through gears very easily. And I have a new ash tray insert as well.

I USED TO OWN A 1963 TR-4--- I WOULD LIKE TO OWN ANOTHER. I sold it when I went into the Marines in 1964 I didn't think I would be back. If it wasn't sold please get a hold of me.
