The 1953 Buick Special:

Long known for having bulletproof engines. excellent brakes and smooth three speed transmission. Buick models of the early 1950s are unique and undervalued classics that offer great style and drivability for the price. Of all the early 50s models. the '53 is considered by many to be the most desirable. It features a unique body only produced for the 1953 model year. It was the last year of the immediate post-war body style and with its swooping fender line and to us is the most attractive of all the 50s models. It contrasts sharply with the boxier models introduced over the next two years. All Specials were Deluxe models in 1953. and these cars were the last Buicks to use a straight-eight engine. For 1953 standard power output increased to 130 hp with the fireball eight motor. 1953 was also the first year for 12 volt electrics.

This Car:

This particular car lived most of its life in California and was then owned by an elderly gentleman. until recently. It is an excellent driving example in a very attractive color scheme. The car has been well preserved by careful ownership and has been sympathetically kept both cosmetically with wax on the paint. interior and chrome. as well as mechanical sorting and detailing.

The undercarriage and body exhibit all the characteristics of an always-dry western car. No rust. no evidence of rust repair. just an excellent. unmolested original frame. trunk and a super straight body. The body panels line up extremely well.  The paint is very nice overall. The car makes a striking impression and garners thumbs up and smiles of approval wherever it goes.

The car has a high quality original paintjob that was recently buffed and waxed out. This car would be equally at home on a local show lawn or the open road. The interior is completely original.

The car has been sorted mechanically by us and we have driven it a few hundred miles since we got it. It has proven to be dead reliable and a pleasure to drive on the open road. The car gets so much attention whether you are driving or pulling into a parking space. It's great to meet so many people who are so enthused about the car. its powertrain and looks.

We recently installed new fuel pump and batteries.   This car has been parked in doors since 1977. and also spent time in the Laughlin Old Car show. Hydraulics and the front suspension was inspected and greased. The lights. horn. signals. high and low beams. and brake lights are all fully operational. The original accelerator-activated ignition switch is still in place and the car fires eagerly every time. even after periods of sitting. The motor immediately settles to a smooth idle and offers the pleasure of the vibration free motoring characteristic of the straight 8 design. The car accelerates smoothly at any speed and the three speed transmission is so smooth.

1950s Buicks are a great value compared to comparable Chevrolets and Fords and every bit as well built. if not better. These cars are undervalued and with good unmolested. dry and rust free examples such as this becoming increasingly hard to find. values will be on the rise.

This car has had two owners since it was bought new.   It is completely original. with the exception of a new battery and fuel pump.   The mileage is: 57. 33
