it is with a heavy heart that i list my beautiful 1965 Ford cortina deluxe (GT clone). it is a great car that does everything its supposed to do much better than it did when new. it features a completly restored drivetrain from a 1968 cortina gt. it is currently my daily driver and is titled in my name in north carolina.
the car came to me in a sad state but was relatively rust free. the floors had no rust. the frame is perfect. the strut mount area is perfect and has not been touched by a welder! i stripped the entire car to bare metal. ixed the rust that was present by cutting it out and welding in new steel. than the car was coated with a phosporic acid solution to make inert any small specs of rust. i then painted the bare steel with high quality epoxy primer followed by 2k filler primer  followed by a final epoxy sealer. than painted the original white using a high quality single stage urethane. all inner panels were also painted and heavily coated with a parrafin based anti rust coating. i did not have a fuel tank for it so i used a very nice tank from a 68 bmw 1600 it is close to the original shape but its 14 gallons as opposed to the cortinas original 8.
the suspension has been fully rebuilt using amsteer ball joint rebuilds. new tie rods and urethane bushings throughout. I installed boge strut inserts from a 83 volvo 242 and used the strut mounts from the same car. i accurately drilled the cortina strut mount pattern into the volvo strut mount and had my alignment checked with a modern alignment machine showing perfect stock gt alignment specs. the front springs are 2" lowering springs at 160 lb rates. i also installed forged lotus track arms.
the brakes were of course fully rebuilt throughout the car along with installing new wheel bearings and seals at the same time.
all body seals are new and sourced from burton power from the uk.
the drivetrain is from a 68 mk2 gt and features the semi close ratio 2000e gearbox which was fully disassembled inspected repaired where needed. it is filled with redline mtl-gl4 gear oil. the driveshaft is the original from the 65 but i had a fully rebuilt one to go with it although it does not need it. this transmission does use the big lotus  clutch master and slave which gives the clutch a nice lightweight feel. of course those were also rebuilt.
The engine is probably the best part of the car. i personally built it and have plenty of receipts to go with it! it features nos forged powermax . 030" pistons giving 10:1 compression. the bottom end is a 2737 crank with standard mains and rods. this engine had a easy life before being rebuilt. the 2737e rods were hand lightened about 50 grams per rod. then balanced to the gram and shot peened. kamax big end bolt were used. acl race bearings were also used. i had a reputable shop local to me dynamically balance everything from the crank pulley to the flywheel. it revs very smoothly.
a reground cosworth a2 camshaft was fitted using new lifters from burton. a new tilton aluminum flywheel was installed using a nos gt clutch and pressure plate.  the head is a 1600e spec and used coated valves from jaeheavy duty formula ford valve springs are used. more than enough for the cam and rev range of this engine. modern viton valve stem seals were also fittedthe head gasket is a . 080" cometic mlsthe intake is the stock 32dfd weber  mounted to a stock manifold which was hand ported by loynings in england. the exhaust is a stock gt manifold with 2 1/4" pipes. quiet yet a bit throaty. the charging system is a gm 63 amp internally regulated alternator using very nice brackets that i made. the starter is a denso gear reduction from powerlite in england 11 tooth pinion 132 tooth ring gear. the ignition is stock ford using nos lucas points and condensor.   this engine has just over 1000 miles on it and has been broken correctlycam break in was performed at intial startup by running around 2000 to 3000 rpms for abou 30 minutes oil was changed immediately after. i now run brad penn 20-50 and see by the book oil pressures.
the engine has great power and makes good power all the way up to around 6500 which is as high as i have reved it. it  will safely rev to 7k. i expect this setup to have about 120 hp at the wheels. with the fast shifting close ratio gear box and a 1700 pound car that equates a very fast car for 1965.
as i said earlier this is my current daily driver and will miss this car dearly. i have driven it from north carolina to carlisle pennsylvania  for the import show. up to detroit to visit family and watch the belle isle grand prix. i drive it every day and it has yet to require any on the road repairs. bid with confidence that you are getting one of the most solid driving mk1 cortina around.
i also have tons of spares for it including a whole running engine from a 68 cortina and enough stuff to build another race engine including new forged cosworth pistons for it. these could be negotiated into the deal if your interested.
