1949 Packard Super 8 Convertible Victoria

Packard’s first post-WWII convertible was introduced in the Spring of 1947 as part of their 22nd Series of automobiles. The series was noteworthy for presenting a whole new style for Packard – one that was acclaimed by many designers and reviewers of the day as “the most beautiful car of 1948. ”

The 22nd Series was held over through the first part of 1949. when a family in Marion. Ohio. purchased this particular car. They enjoyed the Packard for many years. using it sparingly. For sentimental reasons. they parked it in their barn with just 56. 00 miles on the odometer. sometime in the 1960’s. It slumbered there until 2002. when it was purchased by a Packard collector. who set out on a one-year nut and bolt restoration.

The following was done to the car at that time:

• Repainted in 1949 Packard “Valiant Green” color.

• Re-chroming of bumpers and trim. Polished stainless steel.

• New Haartz cloth convertible top.

• New upholstery in correct material and pattern.

• Radiator re-cored and 6-volt electric parade fan added.

• Clutch and Overdrive rebuilt.

• Auxiliary Electric Fuel Pump added.

• New glass in windshield and vent windows.

• New weatherstripping and rubber seals throughout.

• Hydraulic window cylinders and top cylinders rebuilt.

• New exhaust system.

• Rebuilt original radio.

• Radial wide whitewall tires.

Mechanically. the car is excellent. The original 327 c. i. straight eight engine runs whisper quiet with no smoke. It has been enjoyed on many tours throughout the Northwest over the past 10 years and has always performed flawlessly. The car is equipped with Packard’s bulletproof 3-speed manual transmission with R-11 overdrive. Together with radial tires. it is a fast. comfortable highway car. I have personally driven this car nearly 100 miles (see video) and it is a real pleasure on the road.

The car has received awards at many shows including First in Class at the Forest Grove Concours d’Elegance. one of the top shows on the west coast. As you can see. it shows beautifully today.

There were just 4. 50 of these late-22nd series Packard Super 8 convertibles made. Few remain today. For driving. showing. or as an investment. this is a wonderful automobile.

WE WILL HAPPILY SELL TO BIDDERS. WORLDWIDE.
