With considerable regret. I have decided to sell my wonderful 1962 TR4 in stunning signal red.   This is an original. UK registered car. not an import.   I've owned the car for a number of years now. but it's proving increasily impractical for family trips (my seven year old twins have outgrown the rear bench seat).

The car benefits from a complete professional mechanical nut and bolt rebuild. with thousands having spent over the last six months.   I'd never intended to spend this much on it. but took the car into the garage with starting problems and one thing led to another .

I'm pleased to say that the car now starts and drives like new and will undoubtedly give the new owner many years of trouble-free motoring.   In brief. the car has had a new clutch. the engine and gearbox has been taken out of the car. the piston liners removed. engine block cleaned and cylinder head decoked.   The crankshaft has been machined and polished.   New valve seats have been recut and the valves refaced.   The cylinder head has been refaced. the cylinders relined and new pistons and rings installed.   The engine has also had new a main bearing set. big end shells. thrust washers. head gasket set. conversion gasket set. inlet and exhaust valves and guides. a replacement camshaft together with new cam followers. front crank seal. gearbox spigot seal and gaskets. ignition switches. condenser. points. spark plugs. oil pump filter. oil filter and. to finish it all off the engine has been thoroughly cleaned and painted.   Elsewhere. new shock absorbers have been fitted. new disc pads and shoes installed. the brake fluid. gear and engine oil renewed. This comprehensive package of work has been undertaken by my local garage. by experienced mechanics with extensive knowledge of classic cars.   All receipts are available.   There is a comprehensive file that goes with the car.   The car has a working overdrive.

Externally. the car retains a beautifully deep shine.   The bodywork is very good but not immaculate.   The wheel arches and sills are all sound. To be critical. there are a few stonechips and minor rust bubbles here and there but nothing that warrants immediate attention.   Remember that this car is more than half a century old.   The bodywork has not deteriorated while in my ownership.   The car only ever comes out on dry sunny days. and at all other times it is kept under cover in a dry barn.   This said. if I was holding onto her I would probably end up spending a little more attending to these minor details with a view to bringing the bodywork up to same pristine condition as the mechanics.

The car comes with a black hood and the desirable surrey top.   I've never used the latter. its just been sat in the barn wrapped in blankets.

Viewing is. of course. highly recommended.   Come and have a look and if you're really interested we'll take her for a spin.   We are in the foothills of the North Pennines. ten miles East of Jn 40 (Penrith turning) of the M6.   Serious buyers only please. no tyre kickers and I'm not offering free rides to all and sundry - been there. done that!  Offers invited. but be aware that I am no hurry to sell.   This car is a fast appreciating asset.
