MGB GT FWL212E Historic Vehicle  free of road tax.

I am very reluctantly selling my 1967 MGB GT as I am rapidly approaching 80 years and I now find the low car and seating position unsuitable for my advancing years. I have used this car as my everyday car since 2001. I bought it as I was disenchanted with modern cars as I had no means of service or maintenance. The MG offered this with a very ready supply of a full range of spares at very good prices from the MGOC. (MG Owners Club). I needed absolute reliability as I was then working as a consulting engineer and often had to leave the car in airport car parks. The last thing you need after a trans-Atlantic flight when arriving on a cold November night is a car that won't start. Hence the up-grades I have made. This is now a thoroughly reliable and modernised car. It also gives entree to many historic and vintage car events.

Description.

A 1967 MGB GT 1800 cc engine. 69000+ miles on clock. I have no evidence if this mileage is original.

Engine.

A remanufactured Ivor Searle (same remanufacturer as MGOC) engine fitted 47. 32 miles. Unleaded head.  Accuspark Electronic distributor Lucas 45d pattern. Standard twin SU carburettors with K&N air filters. Kenlowe thermostatic controlled electric fan.   Stainless steel exhaust from MGOC. Oil filter adaptor to take standard cartridge filters and it has the great advantage of oil on start eliminating the “death rattle” dry engine as with the original.

Electrical system.

The electrical system is now negative earth. Alternator.   Edge hi-torque geared starter motor giving pre-engaged low current starting from a single 12 v battery. Quartz Halogen headlights with replacement reflectors. You can see on dark roads. a novelty for an MG. Heated rear window but it has damaged wires. Push button radio with Long. Medium and FM channels.

Suspension. brakes  and transmission.

The suspension has polypropylene bushes all round front and rear. Offside upright and wishbone replaced when fitting new the bushes and new coil springs.   The caster angle for the front suspension has been reduced to 4 ⁰ for radial tyres as the RV8 using Brown and Gammons kit to reposition the cross member. This lightens the steering a remarkable amount. The rear springs are Parabolic supplied and fitted MGOC. Adjustable Gaz shocks fitted all round. At 53729 the Gear box was changed to the Ford Type  9  5 speed from the Sierra. Again supplied and fitted by MGOC. Roller thrust race fitted to new clutch.   At 48001 re-conditioned rear axle supplied and fitted MGOC. Chrome wire wheels from MVS with Yokohama tyres. A brake srevo has been fitted before i bought the car. Rear brakes are standard with new linings recently fitted. The front discs were replaced when the suspension bushes were fitted.

Body.

The chassis has had sill replacements and Waxoil treatment. A complete re-spray with modern paint was carried out as the original was weathering to different colours. Tailgate stays replaced. Extensive panel replacements were undertaken with the wings removed. Plastic wing internal liners fitted and underseal. The interior seats carpets etc. fitted in leather and vinyl from Midland Sports and Classics. Heater system upgraded to large matrix and uprated fan from MGOC. The car has a fitted tow bar that passed the last MoT.

Comments and questions to the seller:

from Mr Chris Frost, dated 30 october 2017
Dear Sir.
I'm a little confused. I've seen this car for sale elsewhere for considerably more. Can you help with some information as I'm in the market for an MGB GT and this looks a very nice example. Is it still available at £4,200?
Kind regards
Chris Frost
