Here we have my lovely Scimitar GTE. I bought this car in 2006 and it has been my main car ever since. Over the past 7 years the car has been completely restored and fitted with uprated parts as required. Until recently I did a weekly run between Bradford and Lincoln and enjoyed every mile. These are still fast cars and will happily cruise at high motorway speeds at low revs in overdrive top. As you can see the car looks very smart and draws lots of attention.
Engine had the recommended overhaul at 75. 00 miles ( new rings. bearings. valve springs etc) has excellent oil pressure and should be good for many years to come.  The engine is in standard specification. which is best for road use as tuning these engines can ruin their low end torque. The engine has run on unleaded for at least 40. 000 miles without any problems. The later nylon cam gear is fitted in place of the rather fragile fibre gear. Everything on the car works as it should. All the electrics function correctly and relays have been fitted to light circuits and Halogen headlamps have been fitted. There are front and rear fog lamps. The car has the factory options of Dunlop alloy wheels. electric windows and the original Motorola radio with a rare period AM adapter to connect a tape deck or ipod. It also has a folding parcel shelf.
The tyres are four nearly new Firestones which have excellent grip and look right for the car. There is a good spare and original tool kit
Upgrades include : modern cooling fan and radiator. stainless steel fuel tank. exhaust and water pipes. a Mitsui electric fuel pump and a slightly smaller Mountney steering wheel. (Original wheel included) A manual choke conversion is fitted and there is a manual overide for radiator fan. though I've never had to use it.
The list of new or reconditioned parts is almost endless but include wiper motor. alternator. starter motor. virtually the entire brake system including master cylinder and servo.
The front suspension has had a complete overhaul and front and rear wheel bearings have been replaced and set to correct endfloat. Adjustable Gaz shocks are fitted front and rear. br>The chassis is completely sound and is thoroughly undersealed and should last another 40 years.
The interior is really good. no rips or marks.  and I have recently replaced the carpet as it was getting a bit thin!
The bodywork was stripped and resprayed in original Capricorn Blue cellulose about three years ago still looks good with only the usual small areas of crazing. The chrome looks good with just the offside front bumper starting to loose its shine.
The gearbox and overdrive work correctly and the Salisbury back axle has only a slight whine. which was probably there when new.
i can't honestly think of any real faults with the the car as if anything ever need doing . it was done. The car is correctly setup and ready to drive anywhere.
Although registered in Jan 73 the car was built in mid December 72 making it one of the very last tax exempt Scimitars made. It was originally registered as RMB 1 as it was purchased by Richard Burton. not the actor. but the chairman of Burtons The Tailors. I have several files of paperwork and receipts for the car as well as owners hand book and factory workshop manual. i will also include some useful service spares. The car is correctly registered as an Historic Vehicle and all the details on the V5 are correct with original matching numbers.
I will be sad to see the Scimitar go but I need the garage space for a new project. This is a genuine car looking for a good home. Good roadworthy Scimitars are getting rarer. and an SE5a is. in my opinion a much better drive than the later cars.
