This code 61 Burnished Brown 69 Camaro SS 396 is a two owner car with an interesting history!  According to the previous owner. the car was originally ordered by the dealer Maurice J Sopp & Son of Huntington Park. California to become a part of the dealerships drag racing team.   The car was built to be a stripped out drag racer with steel wheels. no center console. no spoiler. and a monster L78 396 CI V8 with 375 horsepower (the most powerful engine available that isn't a COPO).   Fewer than 2% of 69 Camaros were equipped with the L78 engine.   The JH suffix on the engine's stamp pad reveals the car to be a 396 special high performance.   The engine is certified as original to the car by Jerry MacNeish.   As the story goes. the wife of the owner vetoed the cars drag racing plans and the car was transferred to Hal Green Chevrolet. in Monrovia California.   The first owner of the car purchased it in 1971 and began a 6-year drag racing career.    The car was retired in 1976 and sat in the back of a garage. unregistered. until the late 90s. when it was purchased by the second owner.   The second owner put the car through a high quality cosmetic restoration that included a full respray in the original Burnished Brown as well as detailing the engine bay. under carriage. and suspension.   The interior remained mostly original.   This car is documented with the original bill of sale. an NCRS shipping data report. and registrations dating back to 1971.   The engine in the car is still the numbers matching L78 396.   This cars next owner will not only be purchasing a gorgeous Camaro. but a car with a documented history and multitude of great stories!
