You know how you've been looking for a red. hot. fast. luxury 2-seater. but you want something newer than an MG. nicer than a Fiat. and with better reliability than a Miata?  New. these BMWs are $60k or more. and the spouse/partner/parent thinks its a waste of money.    What if you found the deal of the century that was excellent on dry pavement. astoundingly good on ice and snow. and held together like a race car?  AND what if you found something like this that had been rust proofed at the factory and had a perfect interior?  AND one that gets 28 mpg on the highway? AND even in the color you like?  Don't look to Audi. Fiat. nbsp;Mazda. or British Leyland for a suitably priced pile of mystery. look to this BMW with the big engine and scads of don't-screw-with-me horsepower (and the safety features when someone does).

If you know BMWs of these years. you'll know that typical failure points on them are coolant systems. window and power top motors. and the door handle-to-latch mechanisms. I've replaced all that. and much much more. And I can prove it with receipts.

Since my original purchase. this car has stranded me twice - once from a dead alternator. and once after a hard rain.   I was stationed in VA and was coming back from a friend's retirement ceremony in WA DC.   After a long drive through a lot of standing water on the beltway. I sucked water into the engine. and did a lot of damage to it.   I had the entire engine replaced at the dealership (Passport BMW. just outside the beltway). AND I HAVE THE RECEIPT TO PROVE IT. The car has $169k miles on it. but the engine just went over 100k.

To date. I have replaced the following (these are the receipts I mentioned):
-run flat tires. 3 times since I bought it in '04. Last set was about 14 months ago
-rear window tint (I had everything tinted but when I moved to MD. the state forced me to take off the side window stuff)(broke my friggin heart too)
-both front struts
-both front springs (I'm not sure the springs really needed it. but while deployed. my sister cared graciously cared for it. and the stealership in Denver advised to have me pay to replace them)
-air intake boot
-coolant reservoir
-radiator
-heater crossover tube
-brake rotors and pads
-convertible top motor
-starter
-alternator
-water pump
-cables between door handles and open/close mechanism
-full tuneup including plugs. rotor. cables. belt
-oil filter housing gasket
-air injection pump
-100k mile maintenance
-fuel injection service
-right window motor and regulator (as well as window-to-top seals)

So let's talk details.   When you take delivery of the car. I'll give you all my records. including the pamphlets I was given when I bought it. and even my contract if such a thing appeals to your collector sensibilities. and a free/clear title signed over to you.

Engine: tons of power. no knocks. no issues. no smoke. nothing.   No smoke at deceleration. no smoke at startup. no smoke at idle.   Smooth power in all gears and no issues whatsoever with how it runs. When something went bad. I replaced it.   When something broke. I replaced that too.   When something rattled. snickered or made a sound. I had it looked at and fixed. The engine bay is clean and well tended.   No brittle wiring. no missing fan shrouds. etc. Belly pan has no damage.

Exhaust system:  Nothing to report. No rust. no kinks. no rattles. no issues.

Transmission:  5 speed automatic/steptronic. Either drive around in full auto. or shift through 5 gears like a manual.   Enjoy three shift programs. including traction control off (I rarely use this because the car has TONS of torque. and the car can really get away from you if you have a heavy foot).

Cooling:  I've replaced the radiator. coolant tank and a crossover tube. I have never seen the car get hot. whether in traffic or at ludicrous speed.

Steering: no issues.   No noises. no leaks. no groaning. etc. It's electric anyway. so no groaning ever

Air conditioning:  Of all my cars. this one has the best air conditioning. It gets hot and humid here in Maryland. and the AC has never let me down.   No slow leaks. no one or two cans per summer. nothing.   It's as solid as an iceberg.

Heating system:  no issues.   The car warms up quickly. blows hot air correctly through all vents/combos.

Seals:  all doors. front/rear wind screen and trunk seals are in fantastic condition. Even at highway speeds. you can hold a quiet conversation with a passenger. The car is QUIET.

Rust:  None. but again. these cars were treated at the factory. There's been no body damage. no paint gouges. no undercarriage damage.

Convertible top: fully automatic. with open/close with one button.   The top is in excellent condition. and unlike lesser cars. the things were built with quality materials from the get go.   The rear window (glass) is tinted and has a defrost function.

Body/paint:  solid as a freakin' rock.   There is some lifting clear coat on the passenger front fender. but not badly.   The paint isn't oxidized because I keep up with the cleaning/waxing needs of the thing.   The pictures will show this clearly.

Interior:  stunning.   Simply stunning.   While the pics show sheepskin seat covers. the fully leather. airbag-equipped seats are also pristine.   I've made every attempt to both keep comfortable. and to protect the things from the sun.   I can take other pics to show  this if requested.

Car Fax:  I'm not sure if carfax will report it. but someone ran into the driver side door with a shopping cart a few years back.   The damage was slight. but I claimed it on my Insurance nonetheless. I got a newly painted door out of the deal.

The bads:  the aforementioned clear coat lifting on the fender. Small (tiny) rock chip in the front wind screen.   Small area of chipped paint on the right lower rocker panel.   Normal interior wear and tear.   AND THAT'S ALL

Don't get too hung up on the milage - BMWs were built to last.   The receipts will show that I've driven this car from Monterey. CA to Newport. RI. Newport to San Diego. San Diego to Denver/Southern Wyoming. back to VA. all over hell and creation and even overseas.   Much of these miles were highway. and I'm not the type of guy to abuse my cars.   I can go on and on. talk about "the time that. " (which usually ends with my hefty credit card bill and something else being replaced). or tell you how much blood. sweat and joy I've put into this car. but I'd rather just let you see the thing. and agree with me on your own.

This is not a "barely driven. "Sunday-only driven. "grandma goes to the library" or "low low low miles only" kind of car.   It's gone from one side of the US to the other multiple times without complaint. It goes into and out of Washington DC and Baltimore on a regular basis. and is driven with the respect. love and adoration that a semi-hot footed Navy retiree like me drives it.   In other words. this car is driven. loved and taken well care of. and is rock solid dependable. It's not a museum piece. but attractive members of your favored gender will look at you with envy and want to sleep with you when they see you in it.

My number is 831-601-2313.   Feel free to call with any questions.   If you want close-up pics. let me know. The car comes with a clear Maryland title.   You come to my house. you give me cash. I give you a packet of info and the signed title. $500 due upon close of auction.   If you're active duty Navy and have an ID card to prove it. I'll give you a discount.   Seriously. We sailors have to stick together.

You are no-kidding getting a great car. whether as a platform for a reasonable investment. or because you know what a good buy  this is.   Now that you're dazzled and asking the spouse/partner why you SHOULDN'T be allowed to buy the car. you can now tell them I'm an open and honest guy who doesn't gloss over trouble spots. … And after a lot of deep thought. there ARE no trouble spot.

This is a NO RESERVE auction.   I've listed this car locally though. and I reserve the right to close the auction early.
