History of CHP Unit  # 2212

 This is the actual police car voted as the # 1 and most intimidating police car of all time by Jalopnik. search the "10 most intimidating police cars" as ebay restricts clickable links.  

This is an original. vintage 1988 and “One of the Last” Dodge Diplomat Salon “AHB” police package units to be placed into service by CHP and most California Allied Agencies. This is the ONLY Certified CHP unit with matching numbers and ALL the documentation. equipment and original (E) plates. It was originally purchased from Swift Dodge in Sacramento for $ 9914. 00 and arrived just in time to be Speedometer calibrated on 5-12-88 with 54 miles on the odometer.

 On 5/18/88. the unit was registered to the “Dept of Highway Patrol” and issued plates E  432212.

During the next 7 months. the unit was outfitted as a “Flattop” and certified for highway use on 1-30-89.

 

On 2/07/89. Unit 2212 was placed into service to Area 201 initially set to be exchanged for unit E 432076.

   Later in 2/89. Unit 2212 was then assigned to Area 250. Valley Division. North Sacramento Area Office with 4700 miles on the odometer.

 

On 4/30/91. Unit 2212 was transferred from No. Sac 250 to MTS-Sac 074 with 60. 63 miles.
On 5-22-91. Unit 2212 was transferred from MTS-Sac to Academy Pool 031 with no additional miles. Here the unit was re-painted white and utilized as a pool EVOC (Admin) car where an AM push button radio was installed for “their” listening pleasure. (Included with documentation)
 Unit 2212 was utilized at EVOC in the same capacity until put out to pasture and sold.

 “AS IS” with 94. 76 miles on the odometer to R. L. (FBI Sacramento) on 11/05/98 for $750.

   Letters of authorization and Department decals to restore the vehicle to its original status were obtained from CHP. Countless NOS. (New Old Stock) items (including but not limited to: all taillight assemblies. grill. side markers. headlight bezels. bumper trim. door trim/weatherstrip. hubcaps along with numerous engine and interior components) were purchased from Dodge dealers. Original equipment was obtained. including a true.  original CHP Remington 870 shotgun. CHP PA system. radio/mounts. CHP siren and controls. CHP trunk box. CHP first aid kit. CHP extinguisher. CHP animal snare. CHP K Band radar and tuning fork. scanner. spotlights. rear deck lights all from CHP vehicles and other equipment was obtained for the restoration for the next couple years. (See attached list for all included items)

The car was stripped and prepared for paint by R. L. and his dad. The car then went to Folsom State Prison. Prison Industries. for the paint and returned to the black and white configuration. (Receipts included) The car then sat indoors at Ralph's house in Sacramento for a few years after Ralph's Dad passed away. Ralph. still working for the FBI and without his Dads “supervision”. slowed in his endeavor to put the car back together.

A few years ago. Ralph had decided to possibly depart with the car. but wanted to keep the car in the “Law Enforcement Family”. As a result. the present owner. Mike Terry (Retired Police Sergeant) purchased the car and all the replacement parts that Ralph had obtained over the years.

All electronics/harness. Code 3 devices. safety and vehicle equipment are all original. The original DMV New Vehicle Dealer Notice. CHP registration. maintenance/service records file for Unit 2212. CHP 33. Dealer and manufacturer brochures are still with the car. The cite book. baton and posse box are the same ones used by the owner during the 80's when he drove the Grand Fury/Diplomat series for over 5 years.  During this time. thousands of citations were issued from that cite book and over 1000 personal DUI arrest reports started from the report forms in that posse box. The certified Falcon K-Band Stationary Radar unit is the exact model and configuration used during that time. but not original to this Unit. The radio delete and antenna delete pieces join the true antenna hold down utilized by CHP. The trunk contains the true CHP radio system. repeater. State of California first aid kit. CHP fire extinguisher. CHP organization box with CHP components. Also. a CHP animal snare is affixed to the trunk lid. ( See CHP copy of trunk requirements in Unit 2213. one after this unit. ) There are two CHP Badges. one with Diplomat Unit 2212 as a custom recreation and a regular CHP badge with the display. A CHP uniform shirt and jacket are also included. The original glove compartment booklet. original DMV paperwork to CHP. CHP engineers autographs showing the last Diplomat and historical forms are included.
For the last couple of years. the car has been returned to its original state as envisioned.  Presently housed in the Santa Clarita area. the car has been in numerous displays and shows benefitting the CHP and 11-99 Foundation. Numerous awards and Merits of Distinction are included with the Unit. This is a NO RUST unit and has approximately 7000 miles on the completely rebuilt drivetrain. The 318/904 trans received a complete rebuild as did the rest of the drivetrain. The engine was improved by raising the compression and installing a better breathing cam. The engine. built by Engine Tech machine in Santa Maria. improved the engine by a full meticulous rebuild that included balancing/blue printing. (Full documentation included). The ECM and all electronics were replaced with new or NOS components.  Suspension and the rest of the drivetrain was meticulously redone including the exhaust and pre-cats with a NOS units. Unit passes California smog and has a current smog certification included. The brakes. including the vacuum booster and master cylinder were installed with NOS parts as were the water pump. AC system (converted to R134) and ignition. The tires are the same type used by CHP and are no longer duplicated. The unit has approx 7000 miles on the drivetrain rebuild and is very reliable and loves the highway speeds. This is not a trailer queen! 
There are numerous items that are presently included with the car. All photos. awards. books. reference materials  and spare NOS parts. The true CHP 870 Remington shotgun. requires a separate FFL transaction as required by ebay rules. Lights and radio are simply deactivated for ebay requirements. The radio system is complete and controls all lighting . PA. siren and Ranger radio units including the repeater. CHP “AHB”. numbers matching. completely improved with documentation.
