 DAIMLER SOVEREIGN SERIES 1 4. 2 2. 8 MANUAL O/D ONLY 60K MILES

4. 2 Manual with overdrive
Sable paint work with Cinnamon leather trim
Manufactured  17th  November 1972
Supplied by Henlys of Bristol

Original registration number OYA 70L

‘OYA' was originally a 2. 8 manual with overdrive  and was professionally converted many years ago to a period correct 4. 2 engine.
The differential ratio was also replaced to match the 4. 2 engine at the same time.

She has been in the same ownership since 1978 until this year. she comes with some great history comprising. some original service invoices including her very first service in 1973. also the original sales invoice from Hartwells of Norton to the long term owner in 78.

All her original handbook. passport to service. lubrication charts. Warranty cards. Dealer sales and service book etc are present in the original Daimler Wallet. she even still has the original tax disc holder and dealer key ring. Lots of old MoT's and Tax discs.

Also included are the original sales Brochures and price lists along with a genuine Series One Factory Workshop Manual and Factory Parts Catalogue. both in lovely condition.

The body work is in fantastic condition for a 44 year old car and I can see no sign of heavy corrosion anywhere. She does have the odd ding and mark but as you can see in the pictures ‘OYA' certainly scrubs up well!

The spare wheel well is all very original showing no rusty araeas or repairs and in great order.
There were no advisories on the MOT regarding the body work the Current MOT is until 4th July 2017.

The engine runs smoothly and pulls well. showing good oil pressure  including when up to temperature. the overdrive is in full working order. the rear axle is quiet. ‘OYA' really is a joy to drive and just bowls along beautifully in overdrive top.
The interior is in great condition and has a lovely patina. the woodwork is all original and in top order. the leather is not ripped or split anywhere. and all very original . the carpets are all original and again in great order. the headlining is good. all the electric windows work as does the radio. The fully carpeted boot area is unmarked too all these areas helping to substantiate the low mileage of this car.

The car had a new speedo fitted at 29. 46 miles (the original one is still with the car) the current one shows 31. 25 so only just over 60. 000 miles.

‘OYA' was ordered with some nice options too;

Sundym tinted glass all round

Laminated Front Screen

Original fog Lamps on correct factory brackets etc

Electric windows

Electric antenna.

The exhaust system is in good order

The wheels have recently been stripped blasted and enamelled in the correct silver. plenty of tread on all the tyres. Good chrome on the hub caps and trim rings.

I checked all levels etc and have run her locally and even used her to take our vintage caravan to Swanage recently and she performed faultlessly however the car would benefit from having a full service and inspection as she has not been used properly for many years. indeed she has only covered 400 odd miles in the last 5 years!

I have just purchased a proper manual choke conversion kit from SNG Barratts at 100 pounds which should be installed this week. converting the troublesome AED unit.

For clarity these are the bad points known to me;

Front suspension has a clonk over larger bumps. probably lower ball joint/s.

Slight exhaust knock at rear. needs adjusting I think.

Gearbox has slightly weak synchro going down into 2nd. when cold. with a slight rev it is fine though.

Rear brake callipers need attention as do tend to drag slightly when hot.

Usual oil weeps here and there.

Electric aerial needs a new inner drive cable but the mast is all working correctly.

One fuel tank sender unit is not working. maybe a bad connection. both fuel tanks work perfectly though with no leaks.

Leather would benefit from a proper clean and feed.

Gear lever gaiter split. new one included.

All in all a lovely example of these amazing Series One cars. in a great period colour combination too. There are quite a few spares that also go with car to include various gauges. lamps and chrome fittings etc.

Any inspection and test drive is welcome and the kettle is always on so do come and see the old girl before bidding.
