Snippets: Tailors & Tea Plantations In 1932 Geoffrey W J Winter took delivery of GBT52 at his home of South Hill in Northwood. Middlesex. A few years earlier in December 1924 the Northwood. Pinner & District War Memorial Hospital had been officially opened by Montague Smith (Chairman of the Council); this hospital was funded by public subscription and the Children's Ward. which had 4 beds. was provided by Mr & Mrs Winter of Northwood. Mr. Winter's appeared to have business premises at Nr 2 Savile Row. London; the name Savile is taken from Lady Dorothy Savile 1699/1758 who was the daughter of William Savile the 2nd Marquess of Halifax. Lady Dorothy married Richard Boyle. 3rd Earl of Burlington – his nickname was Apollo of the Arts because of his love of music & the arts. Handel even dedicated two operas to the Earl. In 1936 Stanley Rudolph Winter of South Hill. Northwood changed his name by deedpoll to assume the Christian name of Lloyd. that same year GBT52 was acquired by Edward Manuel Magor a scion of the Magor Tea plantation family. Edward was born in Calcutta in 1876 to Richard & Elizabeth Magor and the family divided their time between India & England with 5 of their 7 offspring being born in Calcutta. In 1908 Edward married Olive Yerburgh and they had two daughters Elizabeth who married Sir Rupert Brazier-Creagh who owned Tarbrook Stud Farm in Limerick & Heather who married Charles Godby. Both of Edward's sons-in-law served with the Army & were recipients of DSO & CBs. Family links to the Magors include a High Court Judge of Calcutta. the Lady Myra Idina Sackville-West. the Lady Victoria Cecil of Burghley and the Welsh industrialist Henry Berry. 1st Baron Buckland to name but a few!!
