Please read the entire description carefully before bidding and wait patiently for all the pics to load.   I will try to link to a Youtube video of the Turner being driven as well

You are bidding on a 1959 Turner 950S     #302-61 (original data plate attached and in vg condition)

This is a rare early Austin based Turner 950S with fins and alloy doors

Not really a race car and not really a street car.   All I can say for sure is that it is a fun car.   We have put about 20 hours run time on it since doing the mechanicals.   A couple of track days at Hallet Motor Racing Circuit. a car show and drive in or two. and lots of just blasting around on country roads.   In Missouri it is licensed on an original 1959 Missouri License Plate and insured by State Farm.   I have no idea if you will be able to do the same in your local.

THE STORY  This Turner was raced in the North East more than a decade ago.   A friend of mine wanted to build a highly prepared fabricated everything modern SCCA full prep race car and needed a core.   He bought this Turner as a bare roller stripped to pretty much just a frame and shell with some suspension and odds and ends left on it.   He then lost interest and abandoned it in storage.   After looking at it every Friday night for a couple of years I bought it as a fun mechanical project to do with my teenage son.   Teenage son is now headed to law school and all of my time is taken with an SCCA Club Racing effort.   The car gets little use anymore.

ENGINE:  (originally 950 Austin/MG) Now scratch built fresh for this Turner fully balanced 1275cc MG Midget Block with . 040 forged Hepolite pistons. Total Seal rings. magnufluxed peened rods with ARP bolts. block has all ARP bolts and strapped center main cap. crank magnafluxed and race prepped MG 10/10. ARP head bolts. 280 degree Elgin race cam. new tappets. race angle valve job. Isky valve springs. real Titan high lift race roller rocker arms. (not cheap Chinese ebay ones). vintage alloy valve cover. new. new water pump. new harmonic balancer. Honda alternator. twin 1. 5” SUs (way to big but look cool). Modified big Healy mesh filters. long branch race header. newer excellent aftermarket distributor with limited prep SCCA curve.   New HD oil pump with Huffaker pan and pickup ($800) and backed up by electrically actuated accusump oiler.   Engine was kept at only 10:1 but prefers 93 Octane and a low idle speed for shutdown.

COOLING  Volkswagen alloy radiator w/heat switch triggering electric fan on face of radiator. Very large Sertrab typ oil cooler and remote filter behind grille.

DRIVELINE  alloy flywheel with HD 1275 pressure plate and stock disk.   Tranny is ribcase I rebuilt with many new parts including a NOS reverse and brand new Jack Knight type Straight Cut Close Ratio gear and syncro set.   These are the old homologated race ratios.   Noisy by nature.   Shifts absolutely perfect.    Rear is fully locked spool and whatever they used to race with (Sprite/Midget center)

BRAKES  Original rear drums excellent condition.   Original front drums replaced with disc brakes from a 70s MG Midget.   Calipers rebuilt. new rotors.   Master and pedal assembly is original.   Feet size 11 and larger will probably drive shoeless.

SUSPENSION etc.   Suspension is very good. King Pins excellent.   Ball Joints recently replaced. Grease certs clean. Front Hub bearings replaced and packed when rebuilt.   Shocks are as we found them and in good working order.   All wire wheel spline hubs very good. Wheels are good straight 48 spoke originals I had blasted and powder coated.   Rare for a Turner the original rear torsion bars are in excellent condition and fully operational.   Light coilovers were added to keep rear wheels from bottoming on inner fenders with 250lb driver at wheel.

FRAME/Chassis  is straight with no signs of serious previous damage.   All inner steel panels look good.   Not rusted and not surface rusted but not detailed either. Regular old used condition.   This is a very solid car.

BODY shows no signs of significant previous damage or repair.   It has numerous fine cracks in surface in high stress areas.

PAINT  is 20 years old and this car needs paint as every panel  has scratches and touchups.   People don't notice so much because it is straight. shiny. has a great stance and presence. and well worn patina like an old pair of shoes.   This fools the camera but the buyer will notice.

INTERIOR is well worn although not torn and shoes evidence of past roll cage and other installations.

Original Steering wheel is in very good condition and the very rare and unobtainable SAND CAST GRILLE is absolutely perfect.   Badges are correct enamel type and new.

WIRING and ACCESSORIES  This Turner has wildly optimistic working Speedo and an accurate modern Tachometer. Water Temp. Oil Temp. and Oil Pressure gauges.   Working horn. park lights. high and low beam headlights. front and rear running lights. rear taillights and rear brake lights. and that is it. nothing more. We did a good job of building a simple all new wiring harness and diagram.

FUEL and PLUMBING  ATL fuel cell in trunk. new Holley electric fuel pump and regulator.   New steel fuel line under car.   All other fuel and oil lines cell to carbs and block to block are EARLS braided Aeroquip hose and fittings.

Not included in sale SHOW BAR:  I say show bar because I am not a professional engineer and not a professional welder and because I was just attempting to maybe add a little protection for my kid on a track day. Note that I still kept him in only a lap belt that would let him fold.   It is not included in the sale but will be set out for pickup when the car is.   It is easy to put in and out and looks pretty nice as I had it powder coated.   Let me repeat it is represented as a SHOW bar.

WHAT IT NEEDS:  All choke mechanisms are working and functional on the SU carbs but there is not a choke cable installed.   Loose choke cable included.   The passenger door which is in vg condition is bolted in back from it's racing days and the hinges are missing.   I bought some hinges from a different Turner and started to modify them but it will be quite a bit of work.   Even with my short 30 inch inseam I can easily just step over the door and into the passenger seat.

Sold as is where is. no warranty expressed or implied.   I will try to answer all questions possible through the Ebay communication system.   $500 paypal deposit due at auction close.   Balance to be paid within 10 days either bank wire transfer or cash in person.   I will not accept Paypal for the balance.   I have clear Missouri title to sign over.   Please do not bid unless you have the money in hand and are sure you can complete the sale.
