1957 Plymouth Savoy

“3 Full Years Ahead…Suddenly. Its 1960!”

** I received several offers and inquires after the previous auction ended and I decided to relist as a classified ad instead of attempting to field offers through ebay / facebook etc. I am not interested in any trades. thank you.

The time has come to put my mild custom “57 Plymouth 2 door hardtop up for sale before she goes into storage for the winter. I have owned several 57-58 Plymouths. and this one is by far the cleanest and most solid. Forward Look era enthusiasts know that the common rust areas are in the fenders. rockers. floors. quarters. This Savoy is solid in all of the “problem” areas and it appears to be all original. with no evidence of filler. The frame is very straight and solid. I purchased the car from the western US and shipped it to Michigan approximately 4 years ago. This is definitely not an original Michigan car.

The exterior is in excellent overall condition. The car was re-sprayed red & white at some point over the original coral finish. The paint is still very glossy. however the top surfaces of the hood. fenders. and trunk lid appear slightly faded compared to the sides. A '58 Plymouth lower grille was added. There are various stone chips. scratches and small blemishes present. The bumpers were recently re-chromed. The wheels (including the spare) were sandblasted and powder coated gloss black. 4 new wide – white Goodyear Super Cushion bias ply tires were installed with 1959 Plymouth caps – just because I like them more! The trunk was repainted and nice new mat was installed. The trunk lip. floors. and drop-downs are solid unlike many other 57-9 Plymouths. The original exterior mirrors were replaced with Christine replicas. The original Mopar dual antennas are pitted. The wipers and all lights work.

The drivetrain was replaced with a 440 engine and torqueflite 727 automatic transmission. I had the motor painted to match the exterior. Some of the modern upgrades include electronic ignition. 4 barrel Carter Competition Series Carburetor. GM 1-wire alternator. aluminum radiator. and electric fan. Several engine compartment components were also re-wired for safer operation. A custom drive shaft was installed. The entire exhaust system was replaced and Xlerator mufflers with chrome tips were installed. She sounds awesome with just the right amount of growl that doesn't over-drone at cruising speeds.

The interior was completely redone using new materials and parts from a '59 Fury. The painted interior trim was replaced with chromed pieces. The Fury swivel seats were reupholstered in a matching red vinyl with gray insert. Aftermarket front seat belts were added. New original style carpeting was installed. The original floor was cleaned and sealed with undercoating before the new carpet was installed. The original headliner is still present and is in great shape aside from a small hole in the right rear passenger area. The package tray was also redone and an under-dash aftermarket CD / stereo was installed. The deluxe steering wheel is in great shape and the horn ring has no pitting. The instrument cluster looks great and the speedometer / odometer work. I installed an aftermarket temperature gauge / amp meter / oil pressure gauge for more accurate readings. The clock does not work. I reluctantly installed a B&M floor shifter after installing the 727. making the original push-button shifter obsolete however a conversion kit is now available. I replaced the original dash-mounted rear view mirror with an aftermarket one because of the terrible sight line. The original mirror will be included with the car. The heating system has been bypassed. The glass is in great shape. but there is “bullet” hole chip in the center of the windshield. The horns will work. but are currently disconnected because the ring contact points need to be cleaned.

Mechanically. this Plymouth is in great shape. The original braking system has been completely gone through. including replacing the master cylinder. The heat shielding was added just for my paranoia. The shocks and idler arm were replaced within a thousand miles. The trans and power steering pumps tend to leak after sitting for long periods of time. The gas tank has been replaced.

Christine's older sister is ready for a new home. The mighty 440 propels this big finned beauty down the road at a surprising pace. The majority of the car has been re-done and it just needs an owner that has the time to drive her more. She is not a show car. but she sure gets a lot of attention at the cruises and shows.
