History

Mr Haslett purchased new and registered E595 XRM for the first time on 1st August 1987. this was to be one of only 1880 M-Tec 1 manuals to be sold in the UK.  The Sport was to remain with Mr Haslett for the next sixteen years until 27th December 2003 when it was sold to Mr John Dolan with only 38. 00 miles on the clock. I then purchased the Sport on 5th September 2006 with 67. 00 miles now recorded. Initially I used the car as my dailly driver until 31/12/2011 when the road tax expired and the mileage was at 73. 60. on average I covered only a thousand miles a year.  During this time I have had plenty of drivers droping their window and commenting on what a beautiful car I have. There have also been many notes put under the windscreen wiper whilst the car has been up my drive and also when parked up asking if I will consider selling the car but at the time I wanted to keep the Sport forever. But things change. families expand and I now sadly realise that the only use the car will get is the yearly trip to the MOT station so very reluctantly I feel it is the right time to find a new owner that will hopefully keep the car standard as she really is very nice and stands out from the typical jelly mould vehicles that fill our roads these days and can only be identified by their badges.  This Sport really is an 80's icon. what other vehicle is so distinguishable today. and what other manufacturer puts a silky smooth 2. 5cc straight six into a small saloon with a close ratio gearbox. nbsp;Bilstein suspension all round and a limited slip diff! The sound track from the exhaust also deserves a special mention.

An Article From Classic Car World Magazine

In 1986. the UK was treated to something that's become most collectable in recent years. the 325i Sport. First impressions conclude that it isn't worlds apart from the standard 325i. but the changes really do make it worlds apart from the hotseat. It came with a close ratio box. stiffer Bilstein suspension and a limited slip diff. Aesthetically. the chrome was gone and the body was dressed with an M Technic bodykit.  Inside. it had a black headlining. M -Tech interior goodies and much improved Recaro seats. the cost of all this back in 86' without any options was £17. 00.

Whether early 3 Series are your thing or not. the uncanny aural effect of a six is instantly attractive. as are the Sport's hugging Recaro chairs with their extendable leg support. The M-tech leather steering wheel is well placed and so is the gear lever. Other controls and switch gear are minimal. each infused with German quality and everything slides or retracts with a numb solidarity that doesn't really exist in other cars of the era. The indicator stalk for example could be used as a coat hook. Overhead in the middle of the roof is a check control panel that tells the occupants of a blown sidelight bulb or low coolant level. The slender pillars give excellent visibility and each of the four corners can be distinguished from the drivers seat. so whether you're reversing or driving forwards it's an incredibly easy car to place.  It was an option on lesser models but the Sport has a limited slip diff as standard.

This era of 3 Series remains modern enough to satisfy those people who like their creature comforts but want to smoke around in something not swamped in plastic. From a driving perspective the lack of power assistance on this Sport results in the steering being far more communicative. this is refreshing. because an E30's power steering set up is deemed as being too light anyway. Early Sports came with uprated Bilstein shock absorbers and a lower ride height from the factory. The ride is perfectly taut enough for spirited use and over broken surfaces. it remians accurate. which is absolutely essential when it comes to a road car that can be properly driven. Standard well cared for 325i examples still feel like they could achieve factory performance figures. even with ridiculous mileage and many prove this notion on the rolling road. The M20 is an engine that's capable of spinning every bank of the speedometer for infinity. perhaps it's most valuable asset is the power delivery from the point of raising the clutch and squeezing the throttle. Even with the standard exhaust system the tone sounds as if its erupting from the bowels of the E30's stomach. not from the tips of a pipe thats hanging acres away from the engine. As with any BMW with this amount of cylinders. the engine has a creamy demeanour  and feels well up for chasing the horizon should you feel the need. The 325i Sport has risen to the surface as something that offers just about everything you could possibly want from a drivers car and it can be enjoyed time and time again without the mechanical anxiety of something going bang.

Interior

Extremely clean and fresh with the same BMW smell it had when it left the factory. the interior really is amazing and has to be described as mint. it oozes 80's nostalgia.

There are no holes. rips. tears or scratches anywhere. the recaro seats are in perfect condition. nbsp;they recline. tilt and the leg supports extend as they should.  The dashboard top has no cracks (which is very rare). All of the electrics and switches work. including the elecrically adjustable mirrors.  There are no blown dashlight or switch bulbs. The roof mounted MFI indicator works as it should.  The sunroof tilts and slides with ease and for more ventilation there are the opening rear quarter lights. nbsp;the glass has a green tint which looks great.  With the thin front  windscreen pillars visibility is excellent and the interior is very light and airy. There is a period analogue Blaupunkt radio/cassette which functions as it should providing stereo sound through the front kick panel speakers. FM/MW reception is provided via the fully operational electric aerial. The rear shelf is original and has not been cut.

Engine

Exactly what you would expect from a low mileage car. silky smooth and responsive. ticks over beautifully. pulls like a train and as I've already mentioned; what a soundtrack from the exhaust. one of the many  things everyone comments on! The sport will always without fail start within seconds. even if left a couple of months.  It has had very regular services and I always use top quality engine oil (usually Silkolene) with a BMW oil filter. air filter and plugs.  I have also changed the brake fluid and anti freeze every two years. The engine drops no oil at all and the engine bay is detailed and spotless.

Gearbox

The gear change is precise and the box is quiet. there are no leaks from the gearbox or diff.

Body

The Sport  is very solid with no rust. or dents. The Lachs silver paint has a deep shine which looks stunning. Since I have owned the Sport I have had the front spoiler. side skirts and bonnet painted by a professional body shop as there where a few stonechips. the match is perfect. The front spoiler does again have the odd unavoidable stonechip here and there but these are only noticeable on very close inspection and can easily be touched in with a stick. The doors and rear quarter panels have had anti corrossion wax injected.   The door shuts are spotless. There is also a full toolkit and original jack and wheel brace all housed in their original locations.

Security

A Sigma Thatcham Cat 1 insurance approved alarm has been fitted which also remotely operates the central locking. The wheels have locking nuts with a special bolt key.

Documents

I have the original BMW wallet containg handbook and service book. every MOT from new and most expired tax discs. There is also a large file of invoices. The log book for clarification states 325i Sport (there is a picture of this on Photobucket).

Summary

This desirable and rare E30 Sport M-Tech 1 looks stunning with a great colour and trim combination and drives exactly as one of the best examples should. The Sport really stands out amongst any modern company with it's unique shape. styling and M Technic badges. Due to it's low original mileage and German engineering it should last a few more decades.

I really can't think of anything that requires attention now or in the future. A full service was carried out only 400 miles ago and the Sport will be provided with a full twelve month MOT and six months road tax so all that you will need to do is fill up and enjoy.

This is one of the lowest genuine mileage Sports I have ever seen. there is another one on a popular website with lower mileage which is being offered by a dealer for £16k. My reserve is under half this so in comparison will be a bargain. The Sport will increase in value over the years if well looked after. so it will prove to be a good investment that can also be enjoyed along the way.

I will be genuinely saddened to part with this Sport as I know it will be almost impossible to find another one as good if I want to enter back into ownership. I am only selling as I never use the car anymore and it seems a shame to just let it sit there in my garage. although I will not be unhappy if it does not reach the reserve and remains there!
