Description:

The Series IIA is considered by many the hardiest Series model constructed. having the same main design as the original Series 1. but improved upon in many areas. It is the type of classic ‘Landy' that features strongly in the general public's perception of the Land Rover. and its shape was carried right through to the most recent Defender. which only this year has ceased production after its long 67 year life span. Land Rovers were quickly adopted by armed forces all over the world. and during the period between 1961 and 1967. the British Army referred to the 88” Series IIA as the ‘Rover 8'.

This particular model is a 1966 Series IIA 88". aka ‘Truck Utility FFR 1/4 Ton 4x4'. that has served 9 years with the British Army. Its tour of duty included 1st Batn. Queen's Guards. Cyprus with the 1st Batn. Yorkshire & Lancashire Regt. . REDES. BOAR. Northern Ireland with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. and the Light Infantry just to name a few. The colour scheme of the vehicle represents its stint in Cyprus with the Yorks & Lancs. The vehicle was retired back into civilian life in 1975. hence the ‘P' registration. but is tax exempt and an age-related plate could be obtained if you so wished.

The Landy fires up with the first push of the button and runs well. It will select gears very easily with the aid of the all-synchromesh gearbox. and will accelerate up to a cruising speed of 50mph happily. with the trademark military Land Rover tyre ‘hum' as you go down the road! The low range and four wheel drive select as they should if the going gets tough. and will pull up to a stop nice and straight. On road or off it. the vehicle is very capable and comfortable with its parabolic springs and tall tyres.

The chassis and bulkhead are believed to be original (the military-specification removable transmission cross member is still in place) and have been completely rebuilt with new sections welded in to a very high standard… no quick patches here! The chassis. bulkhead and bodywork have all been shot blasted. etch primed and resprayed. meaning there is zero corrosion to worry about. All the axles and brakes are rebuilt. and the engine is believed to have been reconditioned also.

The interior is excellent; with brand new black vinyl front seats. and folding rear bench seats are in the back for extra passengers. There are seatbelts up front. and a reconditioned. copper-cored Smiths round heater with demisters to (try!) keep things warm during the colder months. The vehicle has a very long MoT until 8th May 2017.

This vehicle would make a fantastic investment. that can be used. enjoyed and cherished. ideal for those hood-off trips to the beach. into the woods with a shooting party. or just something different to show off!
