Pontiac Trans Am Knight Rider

This is a KITT 2000 replica from the famous TV show of the 80's. Knight Rider.

Based upon an original Mark 1 Pontiac Trans Am. The Trans am of this type was in production between 1981 to 1992 and went through many minor trim and bodywork changes. This is the same type that was used in the original TV series. much rarer. as such there is no heated rear windscreen (no heater lines to distract the looks) also the exterior door trim was not fitted. giving cleaner lines. also this model has the T top (removal roof/ windows)

The conversion work was carried out by Knights of England (you can find them on youtube) before my ownership. This small company builds the interior electrics circuit boards for the gadgets etc. carries out body work and Knight Rider conversions.

This car benefits from a new crate engine being installed at the end of 2015 during my ownership. which is still being run in having done less than 500 miles. It's a GM 5. 7 litre and it makes this car a dream to drive. The original factory fitted 5. 0 litre suffered uneconomical repair. so has been replaced with the more reliable equivalent V8 that GM now produce. Receipts to show purchase of new motor and fitting.

KITT has its original tan leather PMD seats and trim. The dash is obviously replaced in the conversion. The dash is signed by the man himself in 2012. I believe this was shortly after the conversion work was done and the vehicle also benefits from a decent re-spray which I believed happened at the time of conversion also.

Car is currently without MOT and SORN. but used regularly off road to ensure everything keeps working as it should. If asking price is met then new MOT will be provided with the car.

This car is not perfect. it is still a 35 year old 80's american car. but that said the body is very good. No signs of rush on the body work. mechanics are all good. the thing that lets it down is the interior is a little tatty. There are still a lot of these motors out there for parts or interior trim. so easy to come by bits if needed.

The car would benefit from some TLC which I've not had to the time to provide to make her perfect. Its a great little project to make the car your own.

Known issues:

Windscreen wiper switch is stuck on. switch needs replacing. fuse removed.

KITT front scanner installed but not working (unknown electrical issue)

Some of the dash panel lights work intermittently (suspect loose connection somewhere)

Speedo runs from GPS. not direct from gearbox and again this is intermittent

Radio/ DVD needs power re-wiring as this is pulling too much juice so blows the fuse for that circuit.

These are all minor repairs that someone with the time and space can work on easily (two things I don't have anymore. . time and space) and I know that if I remove the dash to investigate. it won't get put back together again any time soon.

I'd love to keep this motor as its an amazing head turner. you will get more looks than any other car on the road. be ready for that!
