Up for auction is a late 1923 or early 1924  Durant manufactured Star Roadster by William Durant. founder of General Motors. created the Durant Car Company in 1922 and made this beautiful and light but powerful STAR. It sports a stock 4-cylinder Continental motor and 3-speed transmission. This rare car is mostly in the original configuration with Stewart-Warner vacuum tank. mechanical distributor and Champion plugs. stock timing chain. rear brakes and emergency rear brake as well. I upgraded to a Zenith carburetor and added a new Rhode Island wire loom for the car. the ignition switch has been rebuilt and new keys made. This Roadster has all original sheet metal. good springs. good latching doors. straight body.  and trunk that closes solidly. with some rust along the bottoms of the rear body and little patches here and there but nothing structural nor wild. An 80+ year old car is bound to have some corrosion. The wooden 21” artillery wheels are still tight and strong and the tubes and tires are good- I replaced tubes where needed. This car has a newer convertible roof that was done sometime in the last 60 years and has a little damage to a seam. The roof has good irons and bows. solid wooden floorboards and even side-curtains for the car- one curtain has a tear. The car has a wooden mechanic's trunk in the rear and a hand-crank as well that will turn over the motor easily. Comes with lots of little extra parts and pieces.

I bought this with the intention of getting it running but my life has gotten too nuts and money too lean- and something has to give. so I have to sell this ahead of finishing it. Basically I have gotten it 80% of the way and someone else can now work the bugs out of it. It'll need brakes adjusted. some small items painted. floorboards installed. fuel & spark adjusted and just some good old fashioned tinkering to make her road ready. For a car this rare- it should have a good a caring home with someone who has the time. Many guys in the Durant club have been great working with me. but I am just too swamped to give this car its proper attention.

The radiator holds water. water pump is free and good. and clutch works through all the gears smoothly. I replaced all oils and fluids in spring so those should be good. Please ask all questions before bidding. The car comes with a later owners manual and an open & clear title dated 1927. In the old days the car was dated at the time of sale. Experts on this car dated it to late 1923 but the title states 1927- so that is one of the quirks of very old cars. This car came out of an Indiana collection when the owner passed away and is a diamond in the rough. The payment can be made through PayPal. cash or bank wire transfer. A $208 non-refundable down payment within 48 hours of close and balance due upon pick-up. The car will need to be pulled onto a trailer- so please plan ahead. and I can help push. No international buyers please. that whole process takes far too long.

Questions answered: the car doesn't have a horn (see hole in firewall) but the horn button is here. The floorboards are fitted and ready to be dropped in place and a few nuts run down on bolts- so they are ready. Two front kick panels are included and they are in the pic with the side curtains laying on the ground. Upholstery springs are very good and firm in the cushions.

I was showing the car to a potential buyer today and notived that the seam tear where the wooden bow meets the metal socket has some damage underneath. That may be why the fabric tore- anyway I wanted to be sure to disclose everything. Being a small and light top. it can still be raised and lowered but will need some repair in the future.

Detail clarifications for bidders:

a. this car is NOT currently running and needs more work to get it there- not sure all what it still needs.

b. this car is black painted and could use a sanding and repaint. the owner before me may have rattle-canned it.

c. title is open and clear- ready to be put in your name.

d. the lights are wired but they don't illuminate- that needs to be examined.
