1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia (Veloce Conversion)

This 1965 Giulia Spider (VIN AR 379454) 1600 5 speed was purchased by my parents in 1976. Prior to arriving in Washington state. it was a California car (Cal. Lic. 934GXP. )

In 1990 the car had a complete engine/transmission rebuild on the original engine and was converted to dual Weber 40 DCOE 28 carbs. and Veloce cams (GTV. Veloce tubular headers and correct Veloce air filter canister. Veloce motor mounts were installed for proper clearance in the engine compartment.

New Koni shocks were installed along with Dave Rugh performance springs (Rugh Engineering in Portland Oregon) which lowered the car 2 inches. Tires are wider Pirelli 175-70-hr 15. Original hubcaps are included; some of the photos show the car with the hubcaps (I prefer to run it without the hubcaps. ) Car has original front disc brakes.

The strongest feature of this Giulia Spider is the rust free body. It carries all of its original body panels. doors. trunk lid. hood. etc. . including the following: rocker panels show no visible rust. floor panels are solid (mild surface pitting. trunk floor is perfect and shows the original stamping 105034. fit of Alfa grill and stainless eyebrows to the front sheet metal is excellent. All chrome and stainless trim are on the car. There is pitting on rear bumpers and windshield supports.   The rocker trim stainless are virtually unblemished. Rear bumper has correct Carello license plate lights which actually work! Front bumpers are straight. rear bumper has a couple of dents that can be pushed out when rechromed. Front bumper overriders are included but not installed. Has original ashtray. spare tire hold down and jack.

The original cloth top is on the car and considering it's nearly 50 years old. is in pretty good shape. Seats are original but have been recovered and are not the correct pattern. The dash pad is long gone! Correct Veglia dash gauges are in the vehicle. The combo gauge and tach. are very nice and all functions work. The speedo. works. as does the trip counter but the odometer does not turn. The speedo. gauge could use restoration. Rubber mats and carpeting are original. heater fan works but needs ducting.

A dent in the area behind the passenger door extending to the rear wheel arch was repaired. It looks ok. but could be done better. This car has always been kept in driving condition by professional shops. Recent replacement of water pump. master cylinder. intake manifold gasket and rubber isolation dampers for the Webers. It does drip some oil.

On the whole. this Alfa presents itself well. It is a great candidate for restoration or driver as it runs. stops. shifts well. The new owner will not have to hunt down any of the difficult trim pieces. This car can be driven and enjoyed or restored to show car quality! I have tried to describe my Alfa as accurately as I can but it is a 50 year old car and is sold as is. feel free to call with any questions or stop by and view the Alfa if you are in the Seattle area.
