FOR SALE:  1956 Austin Champ. Additional accessories added.  See below.  These vehicles were manufactured in Great Britain from 1951 through 1956.  Approximately 11. 00 were produced for the military.  A civilian version was also produced.  The "Champ" was equipped with a 2838cc. 80 hp Rolls Royce 4 cylinder engine.  It also had independent suspension on all 4 wheels and was equipped with Girling brakes.   The transmission was unique in that it was a 5 speed synchronized transmission in both the forward and reverse gears.  It also had a 24 volt ignition system.  Many were equipped with a water proof ignition and engine and with an optional snorkel tube could go through 6 feet of water---not sure about the driver!!  New wiring was run back to the rear for the tail lights. directional lights and the fuel sender.   The seats need to be reupholstered---a new set of seat skins  sewn by John and Mary Worthing Military Canvas Works are provided.  It could benefit from a new coat of paint. but is not necessary.  There is one small rusted area on the inner wall just ahead of the left front seat as shown in the photos.  It is on a bracket and can easily be repaired if desired!   These vehicles were over engineered.  See the photo of the thermostat as an example.  The engine was checked out and a new head gasket was installed.  The drive train and brakes were also checked and seals were replaced where needed.  The vehicle is a good runner and fun to drive as it has plenty of power for a jeep!  It comes with a Minnesota Title.  Additional accessories were added including:  Large Champ spot light. Bren gun holder. wireless radio used in the Champ. head set and microphone. tubes and tube box. and British satchels.  See photos.
