Straight out of the 1950's jet age…!

This is the unique classic you have been waiting for…!

Believed to be one of only two in Australia. and one of only 5. 29 examples ever built. this 1959 Mercury Colony Park. hardtop. pillar-less station wagon. was the most luxurious station wagon of it's day.

This is your chance to own this iconic piece of 1950's American Automotive history…

It took me 2 years to source a Colony park wagon in original and complete condition as this. I searched every single day and have a lot of time and money invested in the purchase of this vehicle.

This car was not actually advertised for sale. and took some detective work and determination to finally acquire.   The previous owner had every intention of one day restoring this beautiful machine and had held onto this vehicle for at least 20 years and the owner before him. another 20 years.

This old Merc was originally lovingly assembled in the Wayne plant. US and was probably sold in Canada as It spent at least 40 years in Saskatoon. The history of the vehicle before this. is unknown.

I have included pictures of what this vehicle will resemble when restored….

This particular example is almost as good as you could have ordered in 1959 and has almost every factory option available. making it one of the rarest Colony Parks in existance!

The station wagon came with and still retains the following options:

Factory tuxedo black paint. Factory red vinyl with grey cloth interior. Factory Colony Park simulated fibreglass wood grain panelling. POWER front door. rear door & tailgate windows    (yes you read correctly)  Rare Factory Climate Dial under dash Air Conditioning.   Rare 'Seat-O-Matic' memory seat that remembers your last desired seat position when you turn the key. Factory/dealer installed Country Cruiser chrome luggage rack. Day/night rear view mirror. Factory green tint glass  Factory Mercury 383 Ci V8 engine with 4v carb  (carb & air cleaner are missing) Merc-O-Matic 3 speed Automatic column shift gearbox. Factory Cabin operated side mirror.   Factory dual exhaust (missing) Factory power steering. Factory power assisted. self adjusting hydraulic brakes.

Other features of this sleek beast include:

Rear seat folds down flat to create a completely flat cargo area from tailgate to rear of front seat long enough and wide enough for 2 tall people to sleep in side by side. Front leg room is enormous and bench seat easily fits 3 people as does the rear seat (you can legally seat 6 people) lockable chrome glove box with Mercury cursive badge script with factory radio to LH side and gorgeous factory clock to RH side. Foot operated dimmer switch to floor. RARE 4 door pillar-less design that enables one open space when all 4 windows are down. Power tailgate window can retract from the push of a button next to dash which then enables the tailgate to be pulled down with the glass hidden inside. Lockable hidden cargo space beneath rear floor and upright spare tyre space out of the way inside the quarter panel area. Dual headlights. Reverse torsion rod operated hood. One of the first vehicles ever produced with same direction sequential windscreen wipers. One of the largest windscreens ever produced on a passenger vehicle that wraps not only around the sides but partly into the roof line (perfect for drive-in movies or star gazing!)  Stylish curved rear quarter glass. Some of the most unique tail lights ever produced throughout the 50's !

This Colony park retains it's original desirable Tuxedo Black paint and the factory pink/brown primer can be seen where the paint is faded. small portions of the body have surface rust. mainly the hood.

Although the body panels are in reasonably rust free shape. there is rust in the following areas underneath:

Both LH & RH rear quarter panels (2X NOS full quarter panels are included in this sale) Both LH & RH dogleg panels adjoining quarter panels. (2X NOS dogleg panels are included in this sale) Both sill panels have rust through areas. Bolt on battery tray will need patching. Both LH & RH rear frame rails have rusted completely. The LH & RH front floors needs replacing. The rear floor area only needs minor patching. The bottom of the tail gate has rust. The entire under-carriage has surface rust and will need sand blasting. All four doors are 99% rust free with one small rust hole on the top lip of the LH rear door.

Nearly all of the interior is present with the exception of:

carpet (I removed this for quarantine cleaning as it was not salvageable) cigarette lighter bezel is missing. one arm rest is missing (common to all 1959 Mercury's)

Almost all of the exterior chrome trim is usable and in quite reasonable condition (most will polish up nicely)

There are some chrome exterior parts that have surface rust or bubbling in the chrome. they are as follows:

Both LH & RH and middle front upper bumper extension pieces have surface rust. The RH piece has been pushed in at some time and has caused a small area of damage to the fender and has broken the RH side grill piece.            This has not affected the car in anyway and appears to be cosmetic only. The front Bumper is in quite good shape but has an area of surface rust and will need to be re-chromed. The rear bumper has had a tow bar installed at some point and has possibly been pushed in to allow for this or taken a small hit at some stage as it is bent but may be salvageable. The RH tail light chrome trim is broken. the housing is not. A NOS RH tail light lens comes with the sale of this vehicle.   2 pieces of rear side chrome trim are bent. (common to all 1959 Mercury's) The chrome trim across the rear of the tailgate has bubbling/pitting. The RH side fender ornament is broken. (common to all 1959 Mercury's) The RH sill panel moulding is broken. The RH headlight bezel is broken (common to all 1959 Mercury's)

The original fibreglass simulated wood trim is all there and very rare hard to find if lost.

The RH front fender fibreglass trim has a crack but is fixable.

The LH front fender fibreglass trim has a small section a few centimetres long broken off near door.

The RH rear quarter panel fibreglass trim has a small section broken off but I found it inside the car luckily!

The 2 rear indicator lenses both shattered when pressure cleaned during quarantine.

The LH rear tail light is broken. but I do have 2 halves and it may be able to be grafted together. I am in the process of trying to source one for the purchaser.

The spare wheel is missing.

The padded dash is toast from so many years in the sun.

The front seat needs re-upholstering ( SMS auto fabrics in the US can supply the exact factory vinyl and cloth and the upholstery still maintains enough detail to use as a template. )

The rear seat upholstery is usable but has a few splits so if desired could be re-upholstered.

The black factory cargo matting is still attached to the rear of the back seat and to the flat cargo areas and is in quite usable condition still !

The door cards are usable. but have a few splits and some minor warping/fading/ and flaking of the chrome foil detail but could be restored or used as templates.

The 3 remaining arm rests are chipped and spoiled but retain some pattern.

The original headliner boards are all there but have warped from heat over the years but again. can be used as templates.

The roof mounted courtesy lights are there. but 1 lens is broken and you can buy one very cheaply on eBay.

The instrument bezel and cluster. chrome glove box. radio. clock. & steering wheel horn bezel are all in great condition for age with minimal if any pitting and will polish up well.

The original red steering wheel is cracked and could be restored if desired (common to all 1959 Mercury's)

The rear view mirror has some surface rust.

The LH front guard eyebrow has some creasing to the panel.

The luggage rack outer bar has surface rust. the rest of it is not too bad but some bends/dents to slats.

The original radiator is out of the car but comes with the sale.

The LH rear door glass & LH front vent door glass is broken and can be replaced here in Aus relatively cheap as it is flat glass.

All of the Ultra rare curved glass is intact. the windscreen does have some minor wiper marks and 1 scratch to the LH wrap around portion.

There is up to $8000 worth of original intact glass included with this car…. I know because I got quotes if it ever had to be replaced.

All 4 original chrome hubcaps are included but do have dents/scratches.

The original diff/tail shaft etc are all there.

I have the rare tailgate lock.

The keys are missing.

To help you restore this car correctly. Included in the purchase of this vehicle. is 2X LH & RH NOS full rear quarter panels & 2X LH & RH NOS dogleg panels made to original specs in the 1960's in USA.

These panels cost me close to $1500 landed here and were some of the last available.

Also included is a NOS RH tail light lens which cost me roughly $300 landed.

This is a very rare and desirable vehicle and will be possibly one of Australia's most unique factory original vehicles once fully restored.

Most folks have not ever heard of a 1959 Mercury Colony Park station wagon. even in the US.

Most of these station wagons were considered ‘old news' after a few years and junked. There must literally only be a handful of them left in the world.

Do your research. these are one of the most desirable and unknown wagon's of all time.

There is currently a restored 1959 Mercury Colony Park for sale in the US for $62. 00USD which is $81. 53AUD

This is an investment grade. highly optioned. Tuxedo black. all original numbers matching 1959 Mercury Colony Park Country cruiser station wagon and will only soar in value and rarity. even if not restored.

I have leads to some of the missing parts and can assist in sourcing them.

I have been as descriptive and thorough in my description as I can be. to avoid any wasting of time from time wasters.

I will happily hold on to this car for years to come and will not indulge in any ridiculous offers or funny business.

The only aspect of this vehicle I am negotiable on is if the purchaser does not wish to include the power windows. Air conditioning or original engine in the sale.

The original vin tag is still on the door pillar and is in great condition.

This vehicle has full Australian Import Approval.

A $500 non-refundable deposit is to be paid immediately after purchase via Ebay/paypal and the remaining funds to be paid in cash or direct debit.

This vehicle does not drive and condition of engine is unknown. vehicle does roll and steer. The flat tyre will be sorted out before transport.

Purchaser agrees to pay for all costs involved with tilt tray towing/transport and to remove vehicle via my instructions & guidance from premises within 7 days of purchase.
