1988 AUSTIN METRO VANDEN PLAS. BARN FIND "6850" MILES ONLY 1 OWNER

Welcome. I am delighted to be able to offer this little gem of British Motoring History. This is its story so far: Purchased new from my local Austin Rover Dealer C &C Motors Ruskington in 1988. I have known this car from new. Up until 1983 I worked for another local Austin Rover dealership. Holland Brothers in Sleaford. My very good long time friend also an excellent time served engineer purchased the car for his sister. My friend sadly has recently passed over and I was then kindly allowed to aquire the car through his surviving sister. The car is a true time warp very rare survivor. It was only used for 1 year! Covering only 6850 miles before going into secure dark storage. It has not seen the light of day for some 27years! It was never touched from then until now. Sadly I couldn't resist washing the 27 years of dust off it! ( I have photographs as it was stored and exhumed. ) What is left is a stunning piece of Austin Rover history. Factory fresh and about as original as you can get. Lovely rust free coachwork and paint. straight panels. virtually unmarked. the underbody still has the factory applied wax. Interior is stunning! Unmarked beautiful supple grey leather. The all important unavailable trims. wood cappings. carpets. door panels etc etc are as new. The” sun roof bag” unused and still in the boot. The rubber Unipart “Metro reversible overmats” were still in the original bags! ( I have now put the front ones in. ) I have very carefully coaxed it back to life. new correct grade oils. fluids. fuel etc. During the re-commissioning and service a new water pump has been fitted including new rear brake wheel cylinders. I have saved the original parts. All other mechanicals are original. exhaust system. linings etc. Those in the know will have observed it still sits on its original now unavailable Michelin TDXE metric tyres. Although these are flat spotted due to long term storage they are excellent! NO perishing at all. The flat spotting may get better with use and heat cycling. A new set of Minator alloy wheels and tyres or Mk2 Metro wheels and tyres can be included and negogiated at the time of sale to make the car daily useable. The original spare wheel and tyre is new and unused. Everything is as it should be. All the rubber around the whole car. under bonnet hoses. door and screen rubbers etc. are perfect largely due to zero sunlight. The car drives and sounds well and can only get better with use. There cannot be many VDP variants left like this. It currently carries 3 stamps in the service book: 1. At 1010 miles 2. At 3102 miles 3. At 6038 miles and stamp 4. Will be at approx 6853 miles when it is MOTd at sale. So there we have it. If you are looking for a serious little show car circuit contender or an enthusiast/collector of the marque. then this car could be for you.
