Ford: F-150 Explorer | eBay

For bids is a 1979 F-150 Custom "Explorer" package shortbox 4X4.  It is a San Jose built and owned truck before being imported to BC about 3 years ago.   The truck was factory optioned with cruise. tilt. A/C. dual front shocks and intermittent wipers.  With just over 130. 00 miles. it has the original 400 with C-6 transmission.   I don't know if either have been rebuilt but the engine is very strong with no smoke. hot or cold. and the transmission shifts tight and smoothly.

It still carries original paint. including period correct pinstriping. from the window line down.  It has no accident damage and no rust.   The underside is in excellent condition. with nothing but very light surface rust. as you would expect of a desert truck.  Every piece of glass is original Ford Carlite and all the factory stickers including the California emissions sticker in the driver's window are still in place.   The interior has been tidied including paint touch-ups in the door frames and behind the seat. and the headliner. dash pad and door panels are in excellent condition.  The carpets were all replaced with ACC 1979 Ford blue with optional heavy jute backing and matching door and kick panels for a quieter ride.  The seat has a split in the vinyl on the driver's side but the back and springs are in good shape. an extra foam seat base is included in the sale.  Due to the seals around the front and rear windows failing from the heat. there was some heavier surface rust in two small spots: one on the top of the windshield and one at the top of the rear glass.  There were no perforations in the metal but I didn't want it to advance so the glass was removed and the rust neutralized and repaired by a professional bodyman.  After the repairs. correct coded paint was flattened to match the existing paint and professionally sprayed.  During re-assembly. every piece of rubber and felt in the cab was replaced to ensure this problem would not re-occur.  An original 1979 Ford sliding rear window was sourced. restored and installed. The original Ford solid glass is included in the sale as well.

Much work has been done to make this a safe and reliable driver while still respecting the preservation of this classic including rebuilt Motorcraft 2150 carb. new fuel pump. dual Magnaflow exhaust. 2” levelling front springs. front suspension bushings. frost plugs. starter motor. all fluids changed and filters replaced as well as brakes rebuilt all around including new rear wheel cylinders.  The truck is currently running 35/12. 50/15 BFG AT KO's with about 75% remaining.  There is an Alpine CD/MP3 player installed and new 6” JBLspeakers in the factory holes in the doors.  I also have the original Ford AM/FM radio that will be included in the sale.

Full disclosure: the compressor and condenser for the AC system are missing. They were gone when I got the truck.  The courtesy light circuit is blowing fuses.  The tilt steering and turn signal cancel is not working; the switch in the column needs replacing. however. the column itself is tight and not sloppy so it should be an easy fix.  The cruise control is not working either; it was very recently but did not on the 150 mile fishing trip that I just took.

This is a good truck with no surprises and is a great platform for a full restoration or just drive it as is.   These trucks are getting harder and harder to find. especially in this condition.   It has no issues mechanically and. beyond what I have disclosed. everything works as it should.   I bought and refurbished this truck to give to my son but Mom says: “no ABS and no airbags = no truck for Junior. ”
