1960 Lotus Elite Base 1.2L

The pure genius of race car designer and builder Colin Chapman is highly evident in the original Lotus Elite. The truly handsomely styled coupe had precise handling and balance that made it a natural on all road courses of the world. In 1959. a Lotus Elite driven by Peter Lumsden won the 1300cc GT class at the Nurburgring 1000km race and the 1500cc class at Lemans all during the owner's annual vacation. The likes of Jim Clark also recorded many victories in Elites.  

This particular car was purchased new from English dealer Chamberlain in 1959. and was one of the first to arrive in the US. Ordered new by San Francisco. CA native Alson Brizard for use as an SCCA race car in the NORCAL Region SCCA. it had immediate success on the track. During the the first four years racing Alson achieved 10 podium finishes in 20 races with this very car. The car changed ownership 6 times altogether to present and still carries the #85 Alson chose in 1960. In 2002. and 2003. the car was invited to participate in the Monterey Historic races at Laguna Seca. CA.  

It has been well maintained and still has its numbers matching original stage 3 motor with twin Weber carburetors. The overall condition is excellent with no checking or cracking. There is no evidence of crash damage and only small touched up stone nicks are found on the bodywork. The car is completely street legal and could be used for vintage rallies or track competition. Spares with the car include original drivers seat. wood steering wheel. side windows. four 48 spoke wire wheels. owners handbook. and shop manual.
