1958 Austin-Healey 100/6 BN6 2-Seat Roadster for sale
Current customer rating: (300 votes ) based on1958 Austin Healey 100/6
In 1952 when Leonard Lord of the Austin division of BMC and the Donald Healey Motor Company formed a joint venture agreement few could have guessed the success they would have in creating the iconic marque Austin-Healey. With Lord's knowledge in management and manufacturing and Donald Healey's in engineering they built 4 different car models until the 20 year agreement ended in 1972. The “Frogeye” Sprite or “Bugeye” as it was called in the US was built '58-'60. It was later known as the “Spridgit” as it was basically a re-badged MG Midget from '61 until it ended production in '71.
The first of the “Big Healey's” was the 100 built between '53-'56. That was followed by the 100/6 built from '56-'59. and finally the 3000 built from '59-'67. The car Steel Affairs is offering is a 1958 100/6 BN6. BN4 model designations represented a 2+2 roadster. The BN6 was a 2-seat roadster. A 2639cc inline 6 cylinder motor was standard in the BN6. It produced 117BHP and could propel the car to a top speed of 104mph as tested in 1959 by The Motor magazine. 0-60 times were recorded in 10. 7 seconds. An optional over drive was available and it is uncertain if the car tested had this option.
Steel Affairs car is a 1958 100/6 BN6 2-seat roadster. It has a toneau cover that has a few snaps torn on it as well as a convertible top which appears to be new. The car looks nice with an older paint job in red with black lower body. The interior has just been re-done in black leather with red piping. The carpet throughout is new but does not extend under the rubber floor mats. It has a heater and the above mentioned over drive. Wheels are Minilites manufactured in the UK and have 165R15 tires on them. The tires are in good condition. The windshield has a chip in it and of course it is in front the driver. The right door handle sticks out slightly and I don't know if it needs adjustment or replacement. It works. It just sticks out a little.
Mechanically the car runs good. It does leak however. I know. I was surprised too. A British car that leaks! The underside shows some rust repairs. Again. a surprise with the oily rustproofing going on. Odometer shows 82. 53 miles and is likely original. however. that can't be verified as the title shows exempt. Overall the car looks nice. runs nice and drives nice. With a little TLC this could make for a good investment.
