One-off Half Midget
(actually a stretched 1/4 body)

Half Midget Replica of 1948 Midget Turner Offy

When it comes to Indianapolis race cars. whether you are a full grown adult or a kid…it seems that just about everybody loves the way they look.   There is so much visually appealing to the Indianapolis Race Cars that for decades various companies have been reproducing small desk size models of these cars.   When it comes to pedal car. some of the most expensive pedal cars are modeled after Indianapolis racecars.

Make no mistake about it the racecar in this eBay ad is not a pedal car and it is not just fabulous garage art…it is a Indianapolis Quarter Midget that has been constructed by one of the top builders in the nation and it was completed in the year 2000.   While just about everybody's son and grandson (even daughter's and granddaughters) would love to sit in this car and have it for their very ownit also does accommodate a full adult.

But make no doubt about it that while this car is being sold only as a display piece it is capable of doing speeds of over 50 mph as per the builder.   It is not being sold to do those type of speeds but again it is being sold strictly as garage art as no tests have been made for safety whatsoever.

Again. understand that a full size adult could get in this car and drive it…it is not being recommended that anybody but an experienced driver try driving this car. especially at show speeds as it has no safety features.

The owner/builder of this car has prepared the following information.

This is not a "kid's car".    However kids love to sit in it and have their picture taken in it!

It was built for display but it is fully motorized with 3/speed transmission.

This is a one-off half-midget  (actually a stretched 1/4 body) designed in 1999 and completed in 2000.  It sits on a 51" wheelbase chrome-moly frame. built for this car only.  The car will accommodate a driver up to 6' and 215 pounds. and it will fit on a quarter midget trailer.

The model for this car was the Kurtis post-war midget.  The kick-up frame and external details are all characteristic of Kurtis design.

It is powered by a 1963 three-speed Honda Trail 90 bike engine with an internal automatic torque converter - no clutch.   Shifting is accomplished with the left foot. on a rocker pedal.  The car can be push-started using 2nd gear.

Upholstery is snap-fitted. one-piece black Naugahyde.  The hinged aluminum seat back also serves as a firewall.  Windshield is 1/16" Lexan secured with an aluminum bezel.  A custom grill was built for this car.

Exhaust exits from the tail pipe. safely behind the driver - the pipe remains cool past the cockpit.  External hand-brake actuates a band on the rear axle.

Non-functional display details include front Houdaille shocks. front cross-leaf spring. 4:1 Offy-style header. dash instruments. air cleaners. Moss-style knockoff wheel nuts. a 'slave' steering arm & drag link. and an air pump.   Spun aluminum wheel covers mimic early Halibrands.   Wheels are steel. on a one-inch solid rear axle. 36" long.

It has been driven on less than a half-dozen occasions.  There is no roll-over protection despite the fact that this car is capable of 50+ mph top speed.   The windshield looks appropriate in static display. but it could be dangerous during an incident.

Ten years ago the red #82 car was displayed at the annual mile racetrack.  While the full size racecars circulated on the track. the Midget was motored in the paddock area. normally reserved for hauler-parking during race events.

Jackie Howerton competed at the national level of sprint car racing for many years -  he's a real racing veteran.   He retired to build street rods.  Upon completing his lengthy ride. Howerton emerged from the #82 car saying. "I haven't had that much fun in a race car for long. long time. "

We have seen Indianapolis Quarter Midgets (½ of a ½ race Midget) sell in the multiples of several ten thousand dollars but this car has a reserve that is unbelievably low in the opinion of MissChiTown.   So whether you are looking for garage art. a car that you can show at car show or flea market. or one that you want to have to let your grandchildren sit in. you will find no finer piece of workmanship or focal point at any local or national car show.   Feel free to ask all the questions in advance by email only if you are a serious bidder.   We know that there are going to be a lot of other people that might be interested in trying to build similar cars and we are not in a position any way technically assist them for that purpose.  Call or message only if you are a seriously interested buyer for this rare ¼ Midget.  This is truly an unusual opportunity and you can see that many famous race car drivers have asked to drive it and have been photographed in it as per the photos.   This is certainly a piece that any car collector will be happy that he bid to win and be very happy he won.

Comments and questions to the seller:

Where is the car? I'd like to inspect it.

Ad says it's a "fixed price listing" at $1736. Is that correct?
If so, is there buyer's premium? Thanks for the help. gk
