This is a 1957 Dual Ghia and is car #104 of approximately 100 built.

The Dual Ghia was an American/Italian composition dreamed up by Chryslers Virgil Exner in the form of several prototypes in 1955-56. called the Firearrow's and Firebomb's. Other than the several prototype Motorama cars. these cars were never to be built by Chrysler but a study in the idea that an Italian exotic body utilizing American mechanicals would be just the right combination to lure the affluent American to purchase something sexy from Europe with the simplicity of having service done at any Chrysler/Dodge dealer in this country. The task of building these for the public was transferred to a new entity called Dual Motors in Michigan. Paste the link below to read the back-story and see the description of a brother car and. which RM Auctions recently sold for $418. 00.

The cars were offered in two power options. the Polyspherical V-8 and the venerable D-500 Hemi. About 50 of each were constructed with the high option being the 315 cu. in. “Red Ram” Hemi. producing 230HP coupled with a single Carter 4bbl carburetor and the Powerflight 2 speed automatic transmission. This high-powered Hemi was a $100 up charge for the option.

You could choose from 20 standard solid colors or select your own bespoke color combination to have something no one else in the pack had.

This Car:

This very early production car is one of the earliest cars known to exist and has many features unique to the first ten or so produced. There are only about 50 left accounted for in either restored. drivable or totally dilapidated condition. There are many less with the Hemi power plant.

The red body color with black and white leather interior is the factory original. The 5th built (the first was car #100) an all-original car that still retains 99% of its original parts. It has the D500 Hemi and is a strong running and driving car.

The previous owner started to restore it and fell ill and unable to complete the car. He was a prominent collector in the northwest and had an enviable collection of the finest motorcars. which included a Mercedes Alloy Gullwing and a Deusenberg to name just two. I purchased the car from the estate of this gentleman a few years ago.

He went out seeking the best possible candidate to do a Concours restoration on and bought this car. as it was the most pure he could find after years of searching. He started with the immediate needs it had by stripping the paint and replacing just the floor pans on left and right and the front valance. They did a proper job on the metal work when comparing it to an original. It was all properly stitch welded as per factory practice. It is still in bare metal showing light surface rust to the bare steel. nothing harmful.  All other metal was in great shape and shows a very nice never hit body with panel fit that is perfect. I own and restored to Pebble Beach quality another car and can attest personally to these comments regarding the originality. condition and quality of workmanship.

It has all its original parts but is missing its sill plates and very few other things. most of which are available or being reproduced. The supply line is being driven by their surge in value and heavy interest of collectors.

The all-original leather interior is fully intact and shows shrinkage and usual wear but perfect for patterns to easily follow in order to accurately reproduce the interior. It has a perfect fitting top frame assembly and the original headliner and top are present although no longer fitted to the frame. The components of these cars were all matched sets and numbered to stay together as every car was coach built individually and fastidiously fit. The car has never been totally apart and the small details are intact to assist in determining what is right and what is not.
