History of this car
According to the Jaguar Heritage certificate with the car. our Jaguar was an early chassis manufactured on 5. 1. 1959 finished in Cotswold blue with a grey interior. the same combination it wears today. It was dispatched on 13. 1. 1959 to Australian distributor Brysons.
Our research has shown that the Jaguar was with the first owner. an Australian soft drinks manufacturer. for many years before being exported to Japan in the late 1980s. to enter an important car collection in Tokyo.
We imported and registered this Jaguar from Japan in 2014 and sold it to the current Kent based owner. who has asked us to sell the Jaguar on his behalf as he doesn't get the time to use it.
Since being in his possession. the Jaguar has been stored in a heated environment continuing its remarkable state of preservation. and it has benefitted from careful maintenance.
It is we believe a 4 owner (including ourselves) from new vehicle and the recorded mileage of 3000 (103. 00) miles is the unwarranted but probably genuine mileage from new.
Body
This is a real strength of this example. Imposingly finished in it's original colour scheme of Cotswold blue. the body is rock solid with excellent panel fit. The paintwork was redone in Australia in the 1980s. It was a high quality job which today looks like the factory original paint. It is free of any significant flaw but does have a few small blemishes. The glass is undamaged. as is all of the chrome work. which is complete and in generally excellent condition with some very minor pickling to some items.
Thanks to having lived in a dry climate its entire life. the chassis is exceptionally sound and original. not the usual patchwork quilt of boiler plate you sometimes see on these cars.
Mechanicals
Our Jaguar drives extremely well. On test. the big bore 3. 8litre 220hp engine ran very sweetly with plenty of power. almost no noise at tick over. factory oil pressure. no smoke to speak of and it starts instantly hot or cold.
The Borg Warner 3 speed automatic transmission shifts smoothly and the 4 wheel servo braking system is recently overhauled so the car stops as well as it goes.
Our car has enjoyed careful maintenance and this shows in the pleasing general operation of the vehicle. The current owner has fitted a Kenlowe electric fan with additional recent attention to fuel pump. engine mount. suspension bushes and general maintenance. including a rolling road tune.
Interior
What a great place to sit! - definitely a preservation class vehicle. The interior of our car is wonderfully original. lending credence to the low recorded mileage. Patina it has in spades. The large expanses of walnut woodwork are undamaged and look superb. The deep pile carpets. the originals – have wear but we would rather keep these instead of replace; the headlining remains taut. The grey leather to the rest of the interior is good to the back seat and door cards but there are some splits to the leather on the front seat. this due to having lived in a hot climate since new.
Dashboard instrumentation is complete and in good order. An aftermarket sound system has been installed.
Summary
The preferred car of many a dignitary when new. this fast. spacious and luxurious car represents outstanding value in today's market at the price suggested here – it's as honest as they come. Bonhams have just sold an original Mark V11 for £70. 00!
Sold with original jack. owner's manual and workshop/parts manuals plus a few spares.
