AC 2 Litre sportscar for sale

My unique rakish Two-Seater Special is based on a right-hand drive 1949 example of the AC 2-litre Saloon produced by the Thames Ditton concern between 1947 and 1958. Dubbed the Electra. an interesting sports car featuring: a shortened version of the standard box section AC chassis. a later semi floating ENV rear axle (that enabled full hydraulic brakes with split front/rear operation to be installed) and wire wheel hubs from a pre-WW2 AC. The bespoke boat-tailed body was constructed in aluminium into which the standard brass AC 2-litre radiator cowl was neatly blended. The windscreen folds flat for trailing . The wheels have been shot blasted. painted and shod with new radial tyres. The wiring has been renewed and the headlamps converted to double dipping operation. The engine has been checked over and a new water pump fitted. The later Aceca exhaust manifolds look good and ensure better breathing. The mudguards have been replaced and the whole car repainted in Dark Blue to a high standard. The sprung steering wheel has been refurbished. the pre-war seats are upholstered in Red leather and the doors trimmed in vinyl. The dashboard is populated with period AC Buckland instruments. AC`s straight-six SOHC 1991cc engine was reputed to develop circa 75bhp at 4. 00 rpm and 95lbft of torque at 2. 00 rpm. This propelled the saloon to 60mph in a little over 20 seconds. so one would expect the presumably lighter Electra to be somewhat swifter off the mark. The top speed of the Saloon was a tad over 80mph. Good weight distribution (48/52 front/rear on the original Saloon) was achieved by keeping the engine and all passengers within the wheelbase and mounting the fuel tank over the rear axle - again. one could expect the Electra to be as good or better in this respect. The engine was mated to a four-speed Moss gearbox. Suspension was by leaf springs all round. Currently taxed and tested and ready to provide fun for a new keeper. `VFO 215` would certainly prove a talking point wherever she went and provide quite a recognition challenge for even the most ardent car buffs.
