1970 MERCEDES 280 SE

In 1968 a new generation of upscale Mercedes-Benz models known as the S-Class were introduced. These refined motor cars continued a tradition of hand-crafted quality and superior engineering while their formal classically-inspired styling featured the discreet use of chrome to produce what many consider to be a timeless design. Base power for S models was provided by a 2. 8-litre inline six-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft and dual carburettors producing 157 horsepower. The model was capable of top speeds of 120 mph and the 280SE benefits from a sophisticated fully independent suspension resulting in precise. responsive handling that made the 280 SE one of the most impressive and satisfying Mercedes-Benz models to drive.

This Bottle Green Mercedes with Fawn upholstery was originally supplied new in Gibraltar and was first registered on the 16th June 1970. The car has covered just 33. 00 miles from new. the KM speedometer records over 53000. The car has had just three owners from new in Gibraltar. first owned by a lady who used the car sparingly. When the lady owner passed away. the Mercedes was left in a lock up for fifteen years before being discovered and sold to a classic car collector in 2007. The Mercedes Benz was in need of re-commissioning and was not used between 2007 and 2009 and was sold to its third owner in Gibraltar(2009)
The Mercedes Benz continued to be left untouched until 2011 when re-commissioning work finally began. From 2011 and throughout 2012 over 12000 Euros were spent on the car. The Mercedes was treated to a complete fuel injection pump overhaul. all the injectors were overhauled and oils. spark plugs and many hoses replaced. A new coil. distributor cap and leads were fitted and new brake hoses. brake discs. pads. brake master cylinder and slave cylinder. clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder were also fitted. Further improvements included a new exhaust system. new electric fuel pump. new fuel tank and fittings. new gear linkages and various internal buttons and knobs replaced. A new battery was also fitted. All replacement parts are genuine Mercedes Benz supplied by an official Mercedes Benz main dealer. Cadimar - Los Barrios. Spain. All invoices for this work are with the vehicles history file.
Having had a thorough mechanical overhaul. the Mercedes Benz still required cosmetic improvements but the owner chose to part exchange the car against a 1950's Daimler. In 2013 the Mercedes Benz was transported to the UK and a further £5. 00 was spent on a total bare metal re-paint and substantial re-chroming. The totally original. superbly straight shell was taken to bare metal and professionally re-painted for the first time. The finish is first class and the body and paintwork as a result present superbly. Headlight surrounds. front and rear bumpers were re-chromed and some new rubbers were also fitted. The interior is beautiful as expected with the ultra-low mileage. The seats are in exceptional condition. the door cards and headlining equally impressive. It is no surprise the original green painted floors are in excellent condition and the boot area. engine bay. particularly the inner wings are in equally impressive original condition.
Over 2014 and 2015 further improvements included new headlamps lenses. rear suspension compensator spring. trailing arm bushes. new brake pads and brake pipes. five new tyres. re-veneered interior woodwork trims and new window clips and seals. The Mercedes was fully serviced. MOT tested. UK registered and has covered around 500 miles of UK touring since being in the UK. The Mercedes Benz drives superbly and is presented in excellent mechanical order and is ready to drive away and enjoy.
