1978 Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider Veloce

A factory RHD UK delivery. matching numbers 2000 Spider Veloce with low mileage and ownership and recent major body restoration.

History of this car

This lovely Spider is back with us. The customer we sold it to has enjoyed it in France this summer but a new focus on pre-war sporting cars means regrettably the Alfa has to go.

The Alfa Romeo historical archive states our spider was amongst the last of this model and series supplied directly to Alfa Romeo UK. London. first registered on 1/4/1978 finished in the most rare colour combination of Giallo Pagoda with a black skai interior. the same combination it wears today.

We believe only very few UK delivery examples of this model were delivered in this stunning shade of yellow. most being finished in the ubiquitous red or silver. white and blue.

Our car lived in London (original registration still on the car) with the first owner until 1993 when it moved to Essex. to be kept by the next custodian until 2006. It then changed hands again to another Essex address until 2013 when purchased by the previous owner. who carried out a sympathetic photo documented body restoration. This is therefore a 4 previous owner from new vehicle.

Mileage recorded today is 59. 00 miles. which whilst not guaranteed genuine from new is likely to be correct given the very little wear on the original interior and the general tight feel of the whole car.

Of the 250 or so 2000 Spider Veloce cars on UK roads. many are converted US or sometimes below par South African imports. so this is now a rare car and must be the best or one of the best examples left.

Body

Absolutely superb in every way – beautiful paint. arrow straight sides. factory panel fit.

According to the receipts with the car. the recent bare metal restoration included fitment of all new sills (outers. middle and inners) both sides. wing repair sections all round plus new front valance. jacking points. new spare wheel well and a high quality repaint in the original and very cool Giallo Pagoda colour; invoices on file for £000s as are bare metal pictures and all replacement panels were supplied by marque specialist Classic Alfa.

Body seals. light lenses and badges were replaced to complete the restoration. and all glass. chrome and stainless trim is in lovely condition; overall the car makes a fabulous impression. down to the unmarked Carello headlight covers.

The wheels have been blasted and repainted. and are well shod with correct profile/size tyres. The eagle eyed Alfisti will notice our car has the earlier style wheels with hubcaps. an arrangement it has had for many years and which we personally like the look of.

We can however supply a set of original wheels with centre caps as a no cost swap if the new owner would like.

The hood is excellent and the original hood cover is still with the car.

Mechanics

Our car has also had much attention paid to the mechanicals in recent times. with invoices on file relating to brakes. engine and gearbox oil seals. clutch hydraulics. bushes. prop shaft and mounts. exhaust. battery. and water pump.

We have serviced the car including replacing the brake master cylinder and both servos. changing oils. all filters. HT leads. plugs. distributor cap. hoses. carburettor mounts and setting up the carburetors. in addition to fitting new Pirelli tyres.

This spider drives as it should. nice and tight with a perfect gearbox and powerful engine.

The under bonnet is authentically detailed.

Interior

Nicely original and in generally excellent original condition with undamaged seats. unmarked very good original carpets. perfect door cards and a very good dashboard. All gauges and switches work and this is a great place to sit behind that evocative dished wood rim steering wheel (in beautiful unrestored condition).

Boot

This has only been partly repainted so wears the original finish on inner wheel arches. boot lid etc. The whole area is very clean with original matting. spare wheel and the original Battaini jack is in place. as is the original paint sticker.

Summary

Factory UK delivery RHD spiders of any type are rare. and this second series Kamm tailed car is pitched at about half what an equivalent round tail car would cost you. It's faster. and nearly as rare. A bargain then. surely?

Our spider is supplied with a history folder and an owner's manual.
