Technical specifications, photos and description:
Lotus Elan plus 2 +2 Very Early car. chassis Number 3 1967. HVU 300F
Lotus Elan +2 1967.
This car. bought new by the famous footballer. allegedly. George Best in 1967. is chassis number 3 and is one of the eldest. if not THE eldest Elan +2 is existence today. Aside from this. the car is in great. renovated condition that was carried out by a motor engineer over a number of years. a few years ago. This consisted of the car being fully mechanically overhauled and a new Genuine galvanised Lotus chassis being fitted too. Although renovated. the car still retains many of its early features and is a stunning car. Since the renovation (around 20 years ago) the car has not been used other than to occasionally go to the fuel station. or for its annual MOT. but strictly only in dry weather.
The car. overall. nbsp;is nice and genuine with the added benefit that it is probably the earliest Elan +2 left and the oldest one around today. All of the interior trim is original and in good condition. unlike most of the Elans around which have been recovered etc. Viewing really is necessary on this car. simply to see the condition and make sure you are happy with it. I am not desperate to sell this car by any means. they are beginning to find their feet and rise in value. This. with it being the third off the production line. is always going to be a very desirable car and is always going to be the one to have for any collector. or real Lotus enthusiast.
As I have said above. the car was bought by George Best new (this can be confirmed via an article being written on this car about 5 Years ago in the ‘HLR Magazine'. I do not have a copy of this magazine but on the lotus forum www. thelotusforums. com/forums/topic/76944-what-is-this/#comment-595616 there is a member who has posted this article that he wrote. ) The DVLA records have been lost/destroyed from this era (67-71). but the car was registered new in stockport (1967) and by George Best allegedly (it is all in this post on the forum and the article should appear at the bottom of the page). Please let me know if you have any concerns with the link to the forum being here and I will take the link off.
£20. 00 seems reasonable to me. so I will not be taking any offers at all! Alternative early cars are available for a little less. but with this car. you are not just buying a nice Elan. but a piece of Lotus History and a sure sound investment due to its provenance. The reason for putting it up for sale is due to a lack of room. alternatively I could sell something else and keep this until they are worth £40. 00. but I will give you all an opportunity to buy first.
Viewing is available mainly at weekends. or week day evenings at Blackpool FY6. To arrange viewing. or to get into contact for more information. please give me a call on 07866625716. Thanks for your time to read. and if anyone has any information on the cars history (as far as George best is concerned) please contact me as information as that would be great.
