GENUINE MORRIS MINI COOPER 997.

This car is the very first of the Mini Coopers. It is a very early build which puts it at 1962. and one of the first CKD Mini Coopers to arrive in Australia. (Making a best guess from my research. ) it would easily be one of the rarest Minis with very few left.

The colour combination is Smoke Grey and Cherry Red. The interior is red. The original BMC Australia compliance plate comes with the vehicle.

I bought this car about 5years back and began an extensive restoration. Unfortunately. after all these years I have had a reality check and concluded I won't have the time to finish this project in the foreseeable future.

The car is almost complete. but you will need to source or rebuild most parts if you are looking for a concourse restoration.

A lot of progress has been made. The body. (which was relatively rust free to begin with) has undergone extensive rebuilding by a restoration expert with thousands already spent. It was sandblasted. metal finished and undercoated in green glasurit undercoat. It has had a new battery box and has also had sound proofing applied. It has been stored in a cool dry garage since work last concluded. It awaits some minor refinishing. a rubdown and repaint. It will be a beautiful finished product.

The sub-frames have been rebuilt with all new nuts and bolts and rubbers. new hi-lows and powder-coated in black.

A brand new wiring loom has been made (in original cotton. with the provision for a tacho. additional gauge and driving lights) and I have sourced many “new old stock” parts.

Essentially. you are bidding on a disassembled Mini. but included in the transaction will be;

-         Rebuilt shell with sliding window doors. bonnet. boot and glass.

-         4 Brand new seam covers.

-         1275 Morris 1100s block. gearbox and cylinder head. Has starter motor and generator as well as heaps of parts. but I would allow for a full rebuild. Only has a single disassembled SU.

-         Original “997” pancake filters. (Painted gold by past owner. will need to be stripped and re-painted. )

-         Front and rear seats. headlining. switches. (At a minimum the front seats will need retrimming. but I always planned to have them all retrimmed to match.

-         Genuine 997 100 mph speedo. (NOS) unique to 997 model.

-         Oval binnacle

-         Genuine NOS fuel gauge

-         Original badges

-         Other instruments and switches (condition unknown)

-         Original steering column and original steering wheel. pedal box

-         NOS Morris horn push

-         Unique early cooper hubcaps (2 are NOS)

-         Stainless steel bumpers. grille. lights

-         Stainless steel side moulds (very rare and worth a lot in their own right. LHS in excellent condition. rear RHS has a kink which needs to be sorted. )

-         Original and rare 7” disk rotors unique to 997 Cooper

-         Original fuel tank.

-         Various engine and mechanical parts

-         Four “Contessa” alloy wheels and four standard steel rims.

-         If the winning bidder is a Victorian resident I will include Black and White “BMC997” Victorian number plates (never previously issued)

Please ring for details. I have no desire to “sugar coat” the description of this car – it is an unfinished project. Mini enthusiasts will however be well aware of how rare this car is and will appreciate the value of the work already completed. Sure it would be ideal if it had its original 997 motor. but would anybody seriously not prefer to build this with a 1275?

JUST A QUICK NOTE TO REITERATE THAT I STAND BY THE DESCRIPTION I HAVE WRITTEN IN THE ADVERTISEMENT. THE CAR IS A GENUINE 997 COOPER AND I WILL INCLUDE EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE MENTIONED IN THE AD. I ALSO HAVE AN 1100CC BLOCK AND SOME COMPONENTS WHICH I WILL INCLUDE AND ALSO WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE THE ORIGINAL 997 GEARBOX.
