1936 Packard 120

This '36 Packard 3 window rumble seat coupe was a body-off restoration probably about 20 years ago. It has the normally expected minor scratches and chips from use. Mechanically it operates well since several power train and chassis repairs were done for the current owner.

Here is a video of a walk-around and road test: http://www. youtube. com/watch?v=PUZTvnOJsw8

A complete valve and seat re-grind was done since one cylinder had a burned exhaust valve. The brakes were relined. drums turned. new steel lines. hoses. wheel. and master cylinders were installed and upgraded to DOT 5 brake fluid. The front end was properly aligned. an auxiliary electric fuel pump. and new steel fuel lines were fitted. The mechanical pump and carburetor were rebuilt as well. There are no suspicious noises. growls. knocks. vibrations or rattles in the engine and drive train. It has good oil pressure and holds its temperature.

The interior is very nicely re-done. The hood hinge assemblies exhibit the very common fault of an under-engineered system that was used on the early 120s. New hinge brackets did not solve the entire problem. Some owners rework the system with a standard hinge and others just deal with the situation. The windshield wipers try; but do not cycle. The left door window does not retract completely so some work will be required inside the door. The window channel in the right door has slipped down a couple inches. There is an area of crazed paint adjacent to the fuel filler and a very minor ding below the trunk. The tires have about 75% tread.

Other than the few body housekeeping issues above; the car is definitely a lovely example of the car that saved the Packard Motor car Co. during the depths of the Great Depression. It is a chance to own an example of the marque without the cost and worry of investing in one of the senior models.
