 1939 PACKARD TWELVE LIMOUSINE
FOR SALE  BY OWNER

This is a car that you will be proud to own!  The car is a 1939 Packard Twelve (model 1708) with a seven passenger limo body.    It is stately and oh. so classy !   The owner found this limousine in a farmer's shed.   It was 98% complete. with minimal surface rust. After five years of meticulous restoration. everything by himself. except chrome plating and painting. he started driving it and showing it.   It received first place at the All-Packard Salado Meet.

The combination of being a heavy car (6. 00 lbs. ) and big tires made it difficult for the owner to steer.   Therefore he added (Ford-made) power steering.   However. old age prevents him to enjoy the car and he decided to sell it.   It was a hard decision. as it was as a child to him.

Odometer shows 59. 00 original miles.

This year car (1939) was the last Packard made the Twelve. and only a few limousines were made.   It was also the last year Packard used wood for the body. The wood of this car was in poor shape. and was 90% replaced with walnut. except the window frames which are rosewood. all made by the owner.   The engine was disassembled and completely rebuilt. including all rings and bearings. New spark plugs and new ignition coils were installed. and the dual distributor was overhauled including alll new wiring.   A test stand was fabricated and the engine was run successfully for 100 hours. before it was installed in the car.

This car is special. even for a Packard.   For instance: the thermostat does not control the water flow. rather the air flow over the radiator. (a new bellows was installed). The clutch and brake pedals are power assisted by vacuum cylinders.   The tires are 8. 25 x 16.   There are three spare tires: two side mounted and one in the trunk.   Anti-sway bars front and rear.   Hydraulic shock absorbers at all wheels.

The body has an operational divider window. two jump seats. and privacy drapes at all rear windows.   The radio is push-button type (radio is included with this auction but it is not installed).   The owner added electric fuel pump. turn signals and electric windshield wipers.   The front upholstery is top grain green leather. the rear compartment is in premium green cloth. all using coil springs. individually bagged. and the carpet is plush synthetic lamb skin. The roof is in green marine vinyl.   The headliner is soft microfiber suede. Interior metal parts were wood-grained.   The shift lever is mounted at the steering column. The clock in the rear compartment is Swiss-made Jaeger (not working)  The mascot is a beautiful Lady Lalique crystal (mad in France). with underneath lighting.   There are two large Trippe driving lights. and two backup lights.

The colors are Packard green and yellow.   The owner duplicated the original outboard wood trunk. which is covered with matching green marine grade vinyl.

This is a luxury car!.   This car be shown-off. and was greatly admired at all the Packard events. It starts and drives well.

The seller can be reached for further information. questions or additional pictures.   The car is located in southwest Houston. Texas.

The interested bidder is invited to visit to see and drive the car.

Buyer must make arrangements for pick up of the car. after full payment is received within 10 days of closing and the title will be transferred.

I noticed your 1939 Packard for sale on a UK web site but see that it is located in Texas. As an interested US buyer, would it be possible to communicate directly?
