One owner. restored to nearly new condition. 130. 00 miles. 36k on Vic Hubbard Speed Shop 289 engine. bored to 310 cu. in. w/ semi-race cam and blueprinted.   Automatic Trans. . all features working; sequential turn signals. headlight covers. etc. Exception: AC compressor needs to be replaced. XR7 instrument panel complete. even rally clock keeps excellent time.   I drive car weekly.

I purchased this 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 in Fall of '66 from Bob Phillipe Lincoln-Mercury on 14th Street in Oakland. CA.  Bob Phillipe was my salesperson.  I have loved this car ever since. It has 130. 00+ miles on the car with 36k on a rebuild of the original 289V8 by the renowned Vic Hubbard Speed Shop in Hayward.  The engine is bored out to 310 cu. in. with a semi-race cam and completely balanced.  It was custom repainted by Mustang Ranch Renovators. San Jose. CA in 1993. they also did the entire interior. headliner. dashboard cowl and carpeting. All of the XR7 instruments in dash panel still function perfectly. the rally clock keeps accurate time.  It is automatic (original transmission) with power steering and power brakes.  The retractible headlight covers function and are still factory installed vacuum-operated.  The sequential turn signals work and use the original motor-driven cam switch (I have a new digital switch from a Thunderbird as backup. if ever needed).  It has brand new thin whitewall tires purchased at Sears (warranty included) and a brand new DieHard battery (warranty included).

The things that need attention and some work are: the AC needs a new compressor (I would convert the Freon system if I were keeping it). The trunk needs to be restored with the fiberboard panels behind the rear seat and along the taillight panel inside the trunk. I was going to make a template and cut them to fit and bond indoor/outdoor carpet to the panels for a great look and road noise abatement.  I would also rebuild the ball joint suspension (an every 60k repair on Ford cars. I have done it twice).

I drive it regularly. at least once or twice a week. both on the freeway and on city streets.  It is fully registered and has "parade" insurance on it through Farmers.  It was appraised by Automobile Appraisal Association October 4. 2001 for a fair market value of $12. 00. 00.  A classic 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 (Dan Gurney Special) and Motor Trend's 1967 "Car of the Year" in as great shape as this one is brings $14. 00 to $15. 00. . if you can even find one.  I have the Owner's Manual and ALL five of the the Assembly Manuals for the car.  I will even throw in the "OL67CAT" personalized CA license plates.  I have a 46 year relationship with this wonderful car. but it's time to move on.

By the way. $12. 00. is the firm asking price and it's FOB Walnut Creek. CA
