Superbirds were never created for the shy people. If you had been willing to step up and buy one in 1970. you expected attention. After all. it was hard to hide a wing that stood about five feet off the ground. a front-end design that looked like nothing else coming from Detroit. and depictions of a Saturday morning cartoon noted for extreme speed strategically located on the body panels. Speed was and remains part of the Superbird being offered here. as this was one of the 408 examples produced featuring the new-for-'70 V-Code 440 Six Pack engine and associated automatic transmission. The Six Pack engine was eye-candy galore with tire-blazing excess to match. topped with three 2-barrel Holley carburetors under an unsilenced air cleaner and terminating in oval-shaped chrome tips. Holding power to the ground here is a set of 15-inch factory Rallye wheels. Power steering and brakes are part of this car. and it received a black vinyl top. which was mandated on all of the 1. 35 Superbirds ever produced due to the need to hide rear-window and sheet-metal changes. Inside are high-back factory bucket seats in black vinyl finish. steering wheel with Voice of Road Runner horn center trim. in-dash tach and 150 MPH speedometer. AM radio. round-faced factory gauges to monitor engine functions. and console-less shifter. Documented with the broadcast sheet and original fender tag. this Superbird's retains 95% original sheet metal  finished in Hi-Impact Tor Red. Alas. the ‘bird flew but one year. and disappeared into history after this single production run. Today. cars like this V-code Superbird remain an attractive. unique collector investment for fans of Mopar horsepower and NASCAR's aero wars. especially fans that are still not afraid of attracting attention.

History:

1 owner NJ car sold to the second owner in 1981 with 37. 86 miles. The second owner at the time of purchase was only 18yrs of age and put the car in his mothers name as it remains up until my purchase. I have a copy of the title from 1981 up until 2016 showing same ownership for 35yrs! The son used the car up until 1983 when he had an issue with the car running. I have original photo's of the car at Englishtown running down the track! In 83 he decided to pull the engine from the car. When I purchased the car he claimed he was bored one day and since he was now 20yrs old and purchased a new GTX decided to pull the motor to find out why an issue with running condition. He removed the engine and and stripped the block. I have the #s matching block and two crates of engine parts. After installing another 440 engine he found out he had a carb problem. He parked the car after the engine installed and never touched the car again until 2016! Again I do have the #s matching block that comes with the car. I installed a new fuel tank and the car started and lot runs. Brakes need attention as well. With a weekends worth of work it could be a great driver quality car. Original untouched interior that shows well. Headliner will need replacement.

Paint And Body:

When the second owner purchased the car in 81 he had the exterior repainted. The paint is not show quality. He didn't paint the inner doors or the underside of the trunk. The factory door Vin decal is factory and has never been painted around the decal. Also the factory 2 jack decals are still located on the trunk along with a factory marking above the one jack decal. The trunk pan was replaced in 81. The only other sheet metal replacement found was the passenger side lower quarter panel. The repair was done nicely and was replaced due to a dent which I have a old photo off. The Superbird still has its original Vinyl top which has a fee bubbles in the lower section of each side. The engine bay is one of the cleanest as far as the metal goes Ive ever seen. Floors are original but the driver side has one area of rot. This is the only area on the car that needs rust repair. The car otherwise is rust free other then some surface rust. This car looks awesome with it original patina but could be restored or with little TLC be used as a daily driver/survivor car.
