When you think about the perfect classic car. what usually comes to mind is the one that steals the show with a terrific appearance. and then steals your heart on the drive home with its all-out power. That's what gets us excited about this 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle. The custom two-tone paint. comfy retomod interior. and thumpin' performance-built 396 V8 under the hood make this a terrific total package classic.


Let's start with the paint that's instantly grabbing your attention. From a distance it might just look like a bold take on Chevy's iconic Hugger Orange. but then as it draws you in. you see something truly unique. This is a daring custom two-tone orange where the two hues dance in-between each other all down the side of the car for an outstanding custom flame appearance. The detail on this is simply amazing. right down to how the door jambs follow the pattern and a hint of maroon pinstripe that gives more definition to the two-color dividing line. But the investment in this coupe goes much deeper than the paint. The super-straight sheetmetal. mirror-like chrome. and power bulge cowl hood make it a cut-above muscle car. And because this one is the car you've dreamed about since you were a kid. it's finished off with 17-inch Hot Wheels alloys.


While there was a lot invested in making the exterior look fantastic. there was definitely money left in the budget for the interior. too. The modern ProCar bucket seats have a lot more bolstering than anything that came out of the 1960s. In-between is a custom orange and black center console that houses comfortable features like the cup holders and power windows. It flows right into the Kenwood AM/FM/CD/XM receiver that powers the Kicker subwoofers in the custom trunk enclosure. But as much as these are features for showing off at stoplights. this Chevelle was definitely built to go fast. You can tell this when you slip into the driver's seat and grab the B&M ratchet shifter with your right hand and the three-spoke sports steering wheel with your left. Beyond that a full set of custom AutoMeter gauges keeps you clued in on everything going on under the hood.


As great as everything else is. it's what in the engine bay that you're going to love most about this restored Chevelle. The 396 cubic-inch V8 is ready for show duty wearing its exterior-matching orange valve covers and an Edelbrock air grabber. Plus. the shine of items like the brake booster and master cylinder are sure to impress. All the correct hoses are in place. and everything looks ready for you to simply pop the hood and wait for the crowd to gather. But beneath this style is some serious performance substance. It includes a Holley four-barrel carburetor. Edelbrock intake. MSD ignition. and Hedman headers that feed the wicked dual exhaust. More than just brute force. the V8 is backed up by reliable components like the aluminum radiator and dual electric fans. But to really understand how thorough this build is. take a look at the undercarriage shots. There you'll spot great driving upgrades like sway bars (front & rear). traction bars. and an improved rear differential. Combine this with power steering. the stout three-speed automatic transmission. front disc brakes. and modern performance tires at all four corners. and you can see this is a great anytime driving classic.
