The XJ6 Series 1 Jaguars and Daimlers are proper old school muscle saloons that are becoming thin on the ground due to a number of factors.  The initial cost of maintenance and poor rust proofing saw many disappear to scrapyards as the newer models appeared in the mid to late '70's and the scrappage scheme offer of £2000 for a car that the market valued at less led to plenty more being decommissioned. Now they are getting the recognition that they deserve and along with the Series 2 offer a good entry to classic car ownership with the ability to match many moderns for pace and handling with seriously good looks.  Give it another 5 years and I expect these 4. 2 Litre cars to be getting the attention that the Astons and Bristols of the same period receive today.  The trick is to find one that hasn't been restored. well kept and preferably rust proofed from new. The cost of a proper full restoration can be eye watering so my suggestion is to either buy one like this to tinker with and make perfect over time. to pay considerably more for one of the very best original examples or to find one that somebody else has restored properly.
So. this is a very good and original XJ6 Series 1 4. 2 Automatic in factory Sable paintwork with Biscuit Leather with black Daimler accents and cinnamon carpets. Chrome wheels with chrome hubcaps and rings.  This is a low ownership car with good history and needs very little.  There is localised repair work required to the ends of the sills and the lower part of the front and rear wings but this will be the first time it will have been repaired in more than 43 years instead of correcting previous bodged work.  Our rate for completing this for the new owner will be less than £750 but I would prefer you to see the car as it is before buying. it really is a very good example.
Originally registered in the UK this Daimler has been part of a private collection in Ireland for a number of years before being returned here recently.  I have owned many of these cars and the Series 2 versions and I would say that this car has been dry stored for most of its life.  Carpets are in exceptional original condition. you cannot buy these anymore.  Paintwork is original with the exception of some repairs to the front wings around the headlight areas completed many years ago. Engine runs smoothly with good oil pressure on tickover when warm. a picture of the gauges is included in the high resolution image link below. Leather is in good condition front and rear.  The headlining will require replacement at some point. we have a very good supplier and will help with this if required.  Inside the boot is very good with correct carpet and trims.  Grille is good but the Daimler badge 'D' will require replacement as it is broken. these are readily available.
Overall this is a very good Series 1 XJ6 and the work required is a fraction of that needed to fully restore one of these cars. We know because that's what we do. come and have a look at this one and the rest of our work at our unit in Banbury.  In my view this car just needs local repairs and some gentle tidying to be welcome at any classic Jaguar show. it is so original that it would be a shame to restore it.
Any questions please ask. my number is 07770 264488. I also have a selection of S2 XJC coupes and their S1 and S2 saloons along with MK2 Jaguar and Daimlers so should be able to help.

On sale from the first bid and available to view. test or try at anytime before the auction closes on Tuesday late afternoon. Help with delivery is available at cost. please ask for a quote.
