The rarest. the most collectible. the best investment in a fine Morgan

 

One of 117 built. one of maybe 30 thought left in the world.   And a beautiful example that would be a treasured part of anyone's collection.

 

Originally from Switzerland. wound up in Oregon and then California for most of its life.   While formerly a serious show car. now for enjoyable road use and occasional shows (I recently showed it at the prestigious Greenwich. Ct concours).   

 

Excellent chassis. wood framing. body. chrome. fairly new leather interior. refinished original wood interior trim. redone three position drophead weather equipment……choice of either freshly rebuilt original 2088cc Standard Vanguard engine OR the currently fitted freshly rebuilt (and very similar visually) 2138cc Triumph TR4A engine.   Either with new clutch assembly and throw out bearing.    First engine better for a collector. second arguably better for road use.    But I can switch engines in a day depending on a buyer's preference.

 

Brakes completely rebuilt. new wheel cylinders and shoes.   Transmission is quiet in all gears and works perfectly.   Front end professionally rebuilt with new kingpins and bushings around 1. 00 miles ago.   New radial tires.   New factory stainless steel muffler. new battery. excellent wiring and electrics. all original gauges in working order. original plastic switches and controls. for road use. I installed a replica of the original heater other than this new unit blasts hot air making this car usable on even the coldest days.   Converted to negative ground. new Sony stereo/CD with USB input tastefully fitted under the dash. as are the speakers and antenna.

 

The side windows are chrome with sliding glass windows and seal very tightly.   Even the original trafficators have been rebuilt and are in working order.

 

Detailed engine bay. optional front bumper and brackets (from research. seem to have been fitted on USA bound cars). new seat belts. electronic ignition. working wipers. horn. everything….   

 

On the road. runs and drives (probably) like new.   Smooth at any practical highway speeds (and have seen 90 mph). reasonably quiet (hence no louvers on the top of the bonnet). a certain level of luxury…. how odd for the maker of such bare bones cars as Morgan.

 

The three position top works perfectly and goes up and down in a few seconds…. VERY unMorgan-like.   And seals up very tightly.   Obviously gives this car a wonderful pre war look…. Bugatti. Delage. whatever…. but smaller.   And effortless to service. repair and own.   Hard to believe but most any part I have ever needed was available from my local Morgan dealer.   With delivery in one day.

 

Starts instantly. runs perfectly. fun to drive. and fun to be seen in.   A VERY rare opportunity to own a wonderful piece of English automotive history without having to pay an exorbitant or inflated price.

 

Truth is. as a potential buyer might suspect. ‘if it is SO good. why are you selling it?'  And the reality is that I own two other Morgan Flat Rads. both in show winning condition. and just acquired a fourth Morgan (unexpectedly…sold it thirty years ago and was just offered it back…couldn't resist).   And I think three is the right number to retain.  

 

Sorry. it is not going to be sold on the cheap. there IS a reserve. car is available for immediate private sale. and I might even consider a part trade for something that looks appealing.    These cars rarely come on the market and whoever winds up with my beautiful Drophead. will get a real gem.

Update: Added pictures of rare & correct front bumper in place. Bumper _is_ included. photos show car in both states. Also. photos show the car's original 2088cc Standard Vanguard engine with single Solex carb (now with zero miles since being rebuilt and sitting on the floor) AND the currently installed 2138cc Triumph TR4A engine with twin SU carbs. rebuilt and so far covered 300 miles.    Car can be offered with either OR both engines. price negotiable.

 Both work well. TR4A engine has a bit more power but the Vanguard IS original and correct. probably desirable for the collector.   Uses the same reconditioned flywheel and new clutch.   When sold. new owner can choose as I would be more than happy to switch engines.
