Retro cars are cool. but nothing beats the real thing. and this is as good as it gets--a 3. 00 original mile T/A converted to a Super Stock F racer within months of delivery from the dealer!  It's wearing the paint that Coletti Chrysler Plymouth laid down. and it looks just as it did 40 years ago.   Few cars of this era survived so well. and this one is damn near perfect!

What we have here is a completely unrestored. absolutely preserved. near mint 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A. featured in the February 2004 issue of Mopar Collectors Guide. This Challenger is absolutely RUST FREE with only 3. 00 original miles on the clock! Truly a piece of history. as it ran 22 DOCUMENTED miles on various race tracks across the Northwest. being crowned not one. but THREE national records in roughly a year's worth of time!

Purchased new in Boise. Idaho. the Gypsy Challenger T/A was immediately prepared for the drag strap in November of 1970. where it was then sponsored by the folks at Dodge. The sway bars and the power brake booster were removed. and the gear ratio changed. At the time of its original purchase. the entire engine block was cracked. leading to a new one being provided by Coletti Racing Enterprises. in addition to a new warranty replacement short block (1971 340) provided through Boyd Larson Dodge. the dealer where the Gypsy was originally purchased from. Although unfortunately. its career on the drag strip didn't last long. This was due largely in part to a falling out between Ray Montgomery (the owner of the car at the time) and the builder in 1972. sentencing this Challenger to reside in Mr. Montgomery's climate controlled storage facility for the next thirty years. He was the sole owner of the Gypsy Challenger. up until 2002. when the previous owner purchased it.
While this car is near perfect in every way. you will find a few minor flaws. take a look at the front seats. Due to theft of the original seats. they were replaced by a set of 1972 Challenger bucket seats. In addition. the acrylic lacquer clear coat on the lid of the trunk is beginning to slightly crack. though it has survived a few coats of protective wax performed during its previous ownership. Additionally. there is a minor scuff mark on either side of the rear of the quarter panels. These scuff marks have been with the car since 1970. shortly after having its new paint applied. and was never touched up. Lastly. there are two very slight indentations on the driver's side front fender. as a result of a small ladder tipping against the fender. The indents are so slight. they are hardly visible in the pictures! The paint was neither chipped nor broken. and the indents are VERY difficult to see. In fact. several paint and body shops stated to the previous owner that it would be best to not even attempt to repair the blemish.
