Frame off restoration of a numbers matching. rare (less than 2. 00 were made and only about half of that with the new hydra-matic) 1941 Cadillac 6227D coupe.  I have an album of over 150 pictures detailing the restoration of this car starting with the day it was delivered from California.  Research shows that it was built in February of 1941 in Detroit and then sent to a dealership in New York.  From there it went to Texas where and then to California.  It was stored inside for over 30 years prior to my purchasing it.  You will see from some of the pictures included here that it was taken down to the bare frame.  Parts were media blasted. primed. and painted.  That includes bolts. nuts. and washers.  Worn out fasteners were replaced. usually with stainless.  All rubber was replaced.  The engine numbers match the frame.  The carb was rebuilt by Daytona and the exhaust manifolds were reporcelinized and inner coated by Tom's in Mn. The transmission was rebuilt with new parts from a 1948 hydra-matic per advice from the Cadillac LaSalle Forum.  The cases were identical. but improvements were made after the war and most restorers upgrade to the '48 internals.  The differential was checked out and new bearings and seals were installed.  All brake lines. fuel lines. gas tank. master and slave cylinders. etc. were replaced with new components.  The original front brakes are available. but a power disc kit and power rack and pinion made specifically for this car by RPM were installed in such a way that they have gone unnoticed by judges.  This car was originally black with  Vincennes red wheels and green wool interior.  After consulting the color charts for 1941 and many pictures I decided to paint the car in the the two tone combination with Vincennes red wheels and matching red pinstripe per the 1941 CLC authentication manual.  The car's exhaust system is stainless steel.  The original radio was reworked by South Texas Antique Radio so that it is now f. m. and has a hidden i-POD jack.  The interior was complete and in good shape. but it was stripped down to the bare springs which were individually rebagged with cotton material. thus replacing the old burlap.  Two tone leather was installed and hand sewn.  The wool carpets and the trunk kit are from Jenkins interiors.  The headliner is new grey cotton felt.  I also performed a 12v conversion and upgraded to Pertonix ignition. but that conversion is well-disguised.  The  complete. new. wiring harness came from Narhagansett.  The wiper motor was replaced with a custom  12v  motor from Newport out of concern for safety and state inspections. There's also a hidden electric fuel pump and manual switch for back up puposes. Most the the chrome was plated in the California. but I had the bumpers redone here in Austin.  The car starts on the first try with a touch of the original starter button.  The starter and generator were of course rebuilt and are still under warranty.  The original radiator was serviced by a local professional and a new thermostat for the shutters was installed.  After coming back from a drive an infra-red thermo gun shows that the top of the radiator is generally 178 to 182 degrees and the lower radiator is 10 degrees cooler as it should be.  The water pump was rebuilt using stainless steel internals and an additional pulley was installed to give me the option of adding air conditioning.  The car is a major show winner and cruises easily at 60+ miles per hour.  The 346 engine is famous for having been used in tanks in WWII.  It is strong. smooth and quiet and has hydraulic lifters.  I have receipts for more than 53k and that does not include labor.  Please keep this in mind as you bid.  I can provide more pictures to interested parties and if you'd like to come see the car I'll pick you up at the Austin International Airport.  We can drive the car and put it up on my lift for inspection.  As you can see from the pictures. this car was invited to  Concours d' Elegance of Texas and won an award in its class. a class shared by highly restored Auburns. Cords. and Packards.  This car is a "full classic" as established by the CCCA. I have restored cars for over 25 years and I've judged at Cadillac LaSalle Nationals. Cell: 512-626-7268 e-mail: kkarrer@austin. rr. com  This car is being offered for sale locally for 55k and I reserve the right to end the auction early.  All calls will be returned.  I have hundreds of restoration pictures. Car has travelled 250 miles since the restoration was completed.  She drives beautifully and dependably.  If you send an e-mail. I can send a short video clip of the car going across the awards stand at the Concours d' Elegance of Texas and you can hear what the judges had to say about her.
